Hey Kevin,The reason that we started a hull reg.was as a courtacy to help guys decide what to build.Nobody wants to show up to a race with two of the same boats. It doesnt meen that you would get thrown in the water fot not adhering to it.All  :p that we care is that you build her pretty and show up to the race to have fun.

As it should be, since most folks out West will never make a race back East, etc., etc., etc. :)

Heck, for all we know, most people that build 'em, may never even race.

MC6 1/8 Scale RulesAll Per NAMBA 1/8 Scale with the following exceptions

Rule #1-4 untouched

Rule #5 untouched with the exception Drivers or Cockpits should minimumly appear per latest NAMBA FE Offshore driver and appearence stds.(single driver)

Rule #7 DELETE (tuned Pipe conceal)

Rule #8 DELETE (drive dog rule)
This is exactly what I am doing but, I would like to use rule #8

ken lost your email with phone numbers can you send me another to [email protected]

Hey Guys,

We need to follow the nitro rules including #8. If or better yet when we are accepted to run with the nitro guys having the same rules will keep any gripes to a minimum. I for one really really really want to open the doors to the nitro guys. ;)

WOW! I have not been reading this thread sence I got back from the nats, I have had a lot of work to do and have been too tired to do much more. I have just stole 2 hours from my customers to read the whole thing before I posted.

I do have a lot of thoughts on the scale thing that was talked about at the Nats. I am dissapointed that 1/16 and 1/10 were not considered in this, If it is a perposal. NAMBA racing is a lot different in many regions and as the nats roll around to each district the different venues would be able to be ran. No one can run all the classes in his district but can have a chance to run a lot of them at the nats. The 1/16 scale class that was ran in the PNW and was sort of lost in the change to NAMBA could be revised if N2 Sport Scale became N2 Scale Hydro. There would be a mid range boats in 1/10. This way there would not be a problem with two grand pop for those that wanted a scale boat in the $600.00 range. We would also pull the group together and include more people this way.

I have 4 more 1/8 boats beeing built in my district sence I poped for it. More later I have to get top work it is all most three hours now.

I would leave the Hull Specs rule 5 in place. Are we talking Scale here or Sport-Scale?

If you start off with allowing foam helmets glued onto cowlings, there will never be any going back. You'll never be able to tighten up that rule again, without all of the added baloney (and wording in the rules) about grandfathering in this and that.

Start off with foam Bobble-Head boats and everyone will be doing it.

Require a driver and a couple of racers have some minor work to do. I don't get it. Why go through the trouble of modeling an Unlimited so closely, only to take the easy way out on that one detail? :(

If the drive dog rule is dropped, it will only give the nitro guys an excuse, saying that the electric boats have an advantage.

How about an added rule. Like Roger mentioned earlier, separating the shovelnoses from the PF hulls. At least making that the CDs choice if enough shovels show at the race. or, at least doing it in the prelim heats and bring the best of both together in the final.

Just something in the Race Format section, along this line: At the Contest Director's discretion, shovelnose hulls and picklefork hulls may be grouped into separate heats.

It would be an incentive for racers to choose a shovelnose boat. As it is, I don't think that many are choosing that option.

Paul, Kevin I 100% agree with the drive dog rule and for the same reasons..

Kevin I see your point with the drivers head thing.. makes sense and I never thought of it that way..got my support

I can not find my rule book what is the drive dog rule.

And on the paint code thing what is the rule?

4. Boats shall be painted, configured, and detailed like the actual unlimited as it ran on the

water. The acquisition of documentation validating a paint scheme, cowling configuration,

engine configuration, or other scale details shall be the responsibility of the boat’s owner.

Photographs of the boat are an acceptable form of documentation.

10. The propeller drive dog may extend one drive dog length beyond the transom

Ok, then the paint is not an exact paint match with paint chips required just close?
I think you may be right but, maybe Al or Don can clarify. in concourse if you want to go for that it probably good idea to be exact.

Paint chips are a bit too extreme. The photo of the real boat that both IMPBA & NAMBA require for documentation is the way to go. The real boats sometimes changed race to race, paint shades included. :)

So Don as long as the boat looks like the photo your ok or as close as possible?

I didn't think someone was going to wipe out a book of paint chips and start jumping up and down when they find a mis match

wow great thread... Kevin I never realized how scale oriented you were , very cool, I wish I could've sat down and chatted with you at the Nats, maybe bury a hatchet or two LOL... anyway I have just read this thread again, and like randy decided to wait to post, I think you guys are doing great so far, I truly believe more guys are building boats then you think, I have another cut and my buddy is already glassing his, I agree with the drive dog rule only because of the points paul and kelly were making, but I sympathize with Ken but think the rule should be reinstated. as for scale that is the main reason I got so tweaked by this, I actually would like all hydros scale in different classes, but that is just me, for the weight thing, zi don't think there should be a minimum weight it will take out the experimentation with new building techniques and as ken said restrict power options, what Kevin has been saying about drivers is really true it's amazing to see beautiful scale boats in my club go driverless it just looks wacked.. I think as prices of equipment come down there will be a lot more boaters jumping in, I am all for 1/10th scale e-rcu boats too.. as for turning left, I like the idea but the problem of limited prop choices sorta makes that unattractive, I really like where this is going and it is true if a guy spends all that time and effort to build one of these things he will spend the loot to make it run at least respectable, and it should definately have the scale look, (this makes the weight thing a moot point scale is heavy ) I also think with all the guys popping on the roster that maybe a small fee to register (even 5 bucks ) should be required (each year) this can go towards a really nice trophy(s) at the nats for the 1/8th scales.. ? at a minimum it will prevent a bunch of people gobbling up all the boats with the intentions of building but not the actions.... and I also agree if there is the same boat so what... build what you want to build because when it is this big and expensive it should be a boat you want to look at everyday.

speed on bruthas...

paint chips?? even if you used the very same paint as the real boats it may not look the same due to the different size.. matching a picture would probably be more accurate

Eddie I was going to bring that up later but, since you just opened the can here we go.

I would like a Master hull Roster that you pay 5 dollars a year for to keep that hull in reserve.. You would pay it when you renew your membership to Namba. If your going to build you would send in the request for the year and model of the boat.. if its not taken then its yours. If you haven't built the boat within that year you loose the chance for that year and model for 1 year.

the master hull roster will be posted for all to see with a picture of the real and model boat.. I would be willing to maintain this or manage this for Namba FE if everyone is fine with that.

as for the money it would go to the 1/8th scale concourse and Nats trophey for the Nats. I would also like to take 10% of the money that is taken in and donate it to the museum that Roger Newton works at that saves and restore the classic Hydros from years gone by. The donation would be in the name of Namba FE 1/8th scale drivers and builders.

Well yes for the most part. The biggest "color" issue I've had is those trying to pass off a Winston Eagle painted red. The real boat was flourescent orange but that color photo'd red with certain film speeds & brands used back in the late 80's. Another example is the Smokin' Joe's (I'm currently building as a matter of fact). That boat used 3 different yellows in 2 years. :)

Also be sure to stipulate the real boat must have qualified and/or raced. An example here would be the U20 Captran Resorts. I was going to do that one until I found out it never qualified or raced with engine cowling on, even though I have pics of it with cowling on sitting on it's trailer. I also have pics of a full size Winston Eagle lobster hull painted in the Smokin' Joe's paint scheme hanging from the Hard Rock Cafe' ceiling. B)

It should be a local and national thing. Like if some one is never going to race out of district then he should need to be on the national register. But if he plans to be racing out of district or at the nats he should have that hull in reserve.

Eddieh

I was thinking that the 1/10 Scale should turn to the right due to prop aviabilty and to be consistent with in NAMBA. This may be too much for Kellys brain to compute but 1/16 and 1/10 should be included in scale and make sport just what it should be.

Does that really belong in this conversation? :(

I agree that paint chips are too much. But in District 9 when Jim Piazza was district Scale Chairman he required that the paint match too closely and turned me off to Scale. I would repaint my hull at a later date to get it closer to correct but only after the paint is showing signs of ware. Jim would not let one of my friends run untill the paint was to Jims aproval.

It was ment in fun and to get some sort of responce to the subject. Kelly can handle a bit of prodding. He is a big boy!
