I WILL BE PUTTING IT IN THE MAIL BOX . SEE YOU AT THE POND

You had better hurry. There are only 52 entry slots available and I know of 5 others that have said the same thing. When we hit the 250 mark, entries will be CLOSED, no matter what.

****, that's going to be a crowded lane 7 & 8   !!! i'm going for lane 1, sounds clear to me.

still sounds cleaner inside than outside ;) .

That's what you think. After watching 3 heats, you will come to understand what Steve and I am saying. They drive these tunnels like monos into the first turn on lap 1. Becomes a graveyard in a quick hurry. If you are not at full speed in lane 1 and nail the start, you better be on the outside.

or be driving "old ironsides" . no first turn is ever easy, with a full, competetive heat. cars, boats, doesn't matter, using your head and skill does. i've been sideways in turn 1 on dirt tracks in full size cars, too-that ain't fun, at all.

Yes, but now that the secret has been revealed, I wonder if bunches of people will shift to lane 7/8 in hopes of avoiding the lane 1/2 graveyard? Maybe the graveyard will move out to 7/8?

When you are in the front, it doesnt matter what happens behind you. (granted you have to drive around it for the next 5 laps but...) Give me lane one anyday (unless my boat wont turn and I take out our token Bermudian, Shane Adderley. Not that thats ever happened...im just sayin.)

I think we should do a F1 race with the top 8 finishers in 20 and 40 tunnel. Lemans hot start, all off of the dock at the drop of the flag, and have a drag race to the first pin. Make it a triangular course. We did this in Sweden and it was a freekin blast!

Lets do it

Just got off the phone with Mic Halbrehder and we were dicussing some possibilities. Think about this:

20 tunnel, 40 tunnel, and Sport 20 tunnel classes only. Run 4 rounds of heat racing, with all of the other classes as well, like normal. The top 11 finishers (points) from each class goes to a "B" main and an "A" main. The bottom 6 of those guys would be in the "B" main. The winner of the B main would get bumped up to run in the A main. The A main (6 boats) would truly be a best of the best, and the winner would be crowned World Champion.

This was also done in Sweden and proved very succesful (unless you were me, who had a terrible weekend). Its also how the cars guys do it.

This would tack on an extra 6 heats... :(

It does a couple things, if you have a bad run during one heat, you are not out of contention. With a field as big as we have for each of these classes, 1400 points probably wont even get you in the top five, much less an overall win, but 1400 points is **** respectable at any race. This gives those guys the chance to go for the gold.

Think about it, these 6 heats should be some of the best, fastest races of the year in the world of tunnels.

John Knight is probably cursing me right now, and I can understand why, but I thought it would be a very cool (and earned) way to crown a true champion.

James,

Taking our phone conversations and pit talk from the fall race to print here. To be fair and crown a true champion take the top 11 in points and run 6-11 in an elimination heat and the winner goes to a 6 boat final winner take all final. Six does not crowd the course too much so someone doesn't get taken out and or you won't have 3 dead boats to race around. Do this at least for the big 3 normally run tunnel classes, sport 20, mod 20 & 40. 6 extra heats and shotout champion. Gives 20% of the racers in a 50 boat class daylight. The triangle course is also a great idea. Makes a real drivers race.

Any opinions pro or con?

Mic

I am not cursing at all. I live here so how many heats we run is not an issue for me. I can go with the flow. I see the point of it all too. It would be the best of the best for sure. We'll talk on the phone and need to talk with the club members as well.

Johns got enough to worry about with the "TB Mafia" out to take his Mod-VP crown. We can run off the heats before he knows what happened.

I would very much like to see a "Love Plan" where the top 7 qualifiers from four qualifing heats are placed in the A main, the next 8 qualifier race in a B main with the winner advancing to the A main. Go to any r/c car race and they use that type of format.
