Now im self employed and reline torque converter clutches for domestic and insdustrial transmissions as well as rebuilding torque converters. I also play with automotive ECU repairs. the best two things i like about boat racing is seeing my boys learn and grow, and racing nitrocrazed in 45 riggers 3 inches apart!!! peter my oldest son wont race boats unless its on the Sony playstation. tried racing 90 mono for a season but got bored and i am back doing what i like best.

My name is Frank Orlic, I have been born in Croatia some 37 years ago, for the last 14 yers I call Canada my home, married with 1 year old boy. Got interested in boats about 12 years ago, it took me few years to figure out what works and what doesn't. In 1995 I started Advanced Racing Tech (engine mod) to pay for my own testing and I sure did my share of it. Curently my engines hold number of IMPBA records most notably B hydro SAW, C hydro SAW, F mono SAW, Fhydro oval and a few more. Don't care much about racing but love testing and learning new things about boats and engines. Right now I only run my own design 21 hydro

You forgot to mention your great prop pitch guage. Even a newbie like myself can understand and use it.

Guys, if you don't have one you are missing out on a great piece of technology.

Beautifully simple and simply beautiful !!

Myron

You guys should see some of the tools for measuring & such Frank made for his engine work. In a word, incredible. I got to see a sample of his stuff at Elmira once when he was checking something of Kentley's. His prop pitch tool is awesome, I've got one as well, the absolute best I've ever seen. Frank's got a real neat tool for installing piston c clips as well. Come to think of it, I've not seen one thing, be it a tool or engine work, that Frank does that's not a work of art. Guess his logo ART (Advanced Racing Tech) says it all ........... :D

I guess since I'm on this thread I should post a little blurb about me. Ya'll know my name. 43 years young ( can't be old, I play with toy boats! ), married 10 years to the lovely & talented Shelly, the wonderful woman who tolerates my running off to the lake every weekend, endless hours in the shop, non stop UPS deliveries, etc. Not to mention putting up with me & my hair trigger mood swings (classic Gemini trait <_< ). I have been fiercely competitive all my life no matter what it was but I always make sure to keep the "fun factor" in there as well. Just moved to Mechanicsville, Va (east of Richmond) in July, cashed out of the northern Va. ( Wash. D.C.) rat race, made a killing on the house up there. Came down here, got twice the house for 1/2 the money & took the rest of the year off. :p Multiple times over IMPBA district scale & hydro champion, national champion, world record holder in scale, member 100mph club, blah, blah, blah. I'm very fortunate to have John Finch, a true r/c boating icon, as my friend & racing partner. Plus I finally caved in and let Andy B. (another good friend & boating icon) talk me into running his stuff, haven't looked back since. :D Really enjoying the folks over here on I/W, alot more fun than you know where ..... <_<

Frank Frank Frank Frank

Enough already you will make his head so big that he won't be able to fit in my car LOL.

I have known Frank since shortly after he moved to Canada we have travelled to many races together and shared alot of great memories together.

What amazes me the most about him is how honest he is he will tell you the truth whether you like it or not and that is a rare quality today.

He is also a master boat builder his carbon fibre boats are absolutely flawless and they are all hand laid.

But enough about Frank already LOL.

Randy Rapedius from Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada.

I'm 39, married for 14 years and have 2 daughters (Amanda 12 & Marissa 9).

I've been actively involed in this hobby for 13 years winning numerous IMPBA District 1 Championships. My most memorable accomplishments in this hobby have been introducing a very successful ''Novice Class'' in our district and starting the ''Northern Lights Model Boat Club'' which now has close to 50 members. I'm also very proud of my daughters who race and recently took 1st and 2nd in the Junior Class at the 2003 Internats. I've been pushing IMPBA to start a recognized ''Junior Class'' and I hope it will soon become reality.

For many years I supplied RTR and modified props for racers under the name ''Randy's Prop Shop''. A few have established current SAW records. Unfortunately 400+ props a year became too much and I decided to pack it in. My wife and kids are much happier now as I'm no longer a slave to the workshop.

I've been a Correctional Officer for 17 years at a maximum security detention center. Model boating seems to help with the stress.

Not sure how much longer Ill be in this hobby. My daughters are not as keen as they once were and I too no longer get the thrill like years before. Plus, I have my eye on a Porsche 911. Looks like I may be moving up to a bigger toy.

Thanks .................................... Randy

Randy,

Ever get tempted to let the prisoners sharpen your props?

I guess that would not be such a great idea to give those guys anything sharp, huh? Other wise you'd still be in business...LOL

Ok I'll try this to:

I'm Oscar Becker, just turned 34 years. I'm married about 5 years now and we have two sons who are 5 and 2 years old. We live in The Netherlands, which is laying on top of Belgium on your map of Europe. ;) I work at a construction company.

The hobby's are beside the K&B Tunnels, getting people out of crashed real outboard tunnels, doing far to many mph on my Ducati 748r. :D and listing to the noice coming from the 'no db-eaters' Termignoni's and the air intake. The music is off course :D Hard Rock and of course :D I like all things that make a lot of noice and are going very fast. Seriously.

Later

Great thread and somewhat amazed to see so many of us with similar interests.

The Brad part you've got, the V is for Vivian, a Welsh name that has it's origins in 150AD Roman Times and means 'To Live'.

I'm 36 years old, currently single, have been retired for the last 2.5 years and living between Perth West Australia and doing the gypsy thing travelling around the globe. So my current job is just having fun with my toys when home and travelling for new experiences when I'm not...

My previous paid job was Business Manager for our States Department of Justice in Court Services, prior to that was an IT Project Manager, Clerk of Courts and Project Officer. Went to Uni and did the Bachelor of Science thing but it didn't take me very far into a career.

Been into model boating full on since I was 15 and just love anything that involves mechanical excellence, speed and adrenaline rushes. Current owner of a fast 7.5cc multi and awaiting delivery in next few days of a Aeromarine 90 SprintCat with 1.0 cube CMB. Other major project is a recently completed and fully restored 1979 Ford with 377 cube stroker Cleveland that aims down the quarter mile in the low 12's, just love the rush of fast cars.

Also very much into the high end home Hi-Fi scene - so I love all music, playing guitar (acoustic & electric), and meditating to focus my mind and give me an attitude of abundance and appreciation of life.

Currently dogless (loved those staffies!) and without female company, having had a year where natural attrition seemed to kill off the dogs (they were old) and saw the latest girlfriend move camp.

Still considering my next move on the turn of the new year, getting to the point where I would like to make baby's after seeing my brother do a great job of it. But might get another dog (Amstaff) instead and see how that feels for a while... LOL.

I love the search feature here, just found this thread so here goes. My name is Joe Scott, I'm 33, dee-vorced, 1 daughter 9 years old the apple of her daddy's eye. I live in Cedar MI 1 mile from the western Lake Michigan coast. I work in Traverse City as a Project Manager for my family's kitchen cabinet company. check it out northwoodkitchens.com There is a neat "report" that a local guy does lelandreport.com check that out too, it's a different photo each day of our area, very scenic here in Northwest Lower Michigan. I've just gotten back into the hobby after a couple year hiatus & am having a blast. I look forward to meeting Mark Sholund soon, just realized he lives nearby, did you get my e-mail Mark??? I'm just getting going on a Dumas Pay-N-Pak "grim" style. Looking forward to setting the water on fire with that dude soon! I've mostly run tunnel hulls but have had all kinds of different craft. I bought one of the 1st XTR's out of Tommy's molds, man was that a fun boat!! Remember Rod & Tommy, I met you guy's at the Internat's in Fort Wane. What a great forum Tom. I'm back..................

This is a great thread.

I'm Chris Wittrig. I was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1967 (37 y/o) and have never lived outside of Southern California. I am divorced (twice, probably due to boats) and have two girls ages 12 (Nicolle) and 8 (Megan). I do, though, currently have a girlfriend, Stephenie, who has a never ending tollerance for my hobbies. I am one of two, which means I'm a twin. My brother David runs boats as well. If you see the link to my mug shot below, you can see the whole bunch of us there.

I run a software division for Fidelity National Financial (the largest title insurer in the United States) and am responsible for eCommerce technologies in the consumer finance market space, including Automotive Finance, Credit Cards, and other debt for captive finance companies such as the big three US automakers (no names here), as well as several Asian auto makers (fill in the blanks). My job has me traveling upwards of 140,000 miles per year, yet I somehow still find time to build, fix, prepare, and race the 12 boats in my garage. That combined with my status as the NAMBA District 19 Outboard Chairman and responsible for technology surrounding the 2004 NAMBA Nationals keeps me busy as well. I guess model boating is my current passion. I currently hold 4 NAMBA Tunnel records, and our team has 7 Tunnel records combined.

My passion before that was music. I spent the better part of the 80's playing in a "hair band" touring the L.A. Club Circuit. Heck, Nirvana opened for us in 1987! We reached our Pinnacle by signing a management contract with the management arm of Atlantic Records in 1989, then I suffered a injury setback that ultimately took me out of music. The band broke up and that was that.

I'm compulsive, which means it's never enough. Never enough music equipment in the past, never enough boat toys in the present.

Click here for my current mug shot, and the attached is one from the past. No shame!

My name Is Steve W. (Father's in law enforcement so I'd rather not use My last name, for those that are bothered by this it's Smith)I have endless patience for inanimate objects and people that aren't too bright, but not for ignorant ones! (and if you arrive at the end of one of my projects I could be mistaken for 'bright',but I'm just patient)

My one current goal in life is to have an original thought.

I am a tile setter by trade ,living in Southern California, befor getting back into boats I was spending countless hours building different car sets for the P.C. game NASCAR Heat I assembled an accurate carset of the 1969 nascar season, and about 500 street rods converted from user edited 'Need For Speed' cars.after hours of online stock car racing it dawned on me that there is NO TRACK,NO CARS AND I'M NOT REALLY SHURE THAT I'M RACING AGAINST OTHERS LIKE ME!!!!!

so boats it is .I have allways tended to do things that don't seem practical just for the learning experience.

i.e. scratch building flat bottom drag boats from fiberglass.

So far the project has been very rewarding and the boat is still months from getting to the lake

patience

Snowdog here,

Bryan Good by name but love the alias. In case you were wondering, it comes from the band, Rush. I'm 35. Born and raised in Kankakee, Illinois in 1968. Joined the Air Force in '86 and have lived in Dayton Ohio; Anchorage, Alaska; Tacoma, Washington (only 10 minutes from JD BTW) and now in Mons, Belgium (45 minutes from Bart D and 2.5 hours from Ducati).

Earned my Associates degree in Applied Sciences from the Community College of the Air Force in '95 and have been sloooooowly working my way towards my bachelors.

My uncles all raced power boats when I was growing up and I especially loved the tunnel hulls which is why they are what I run now. Picked up a Fast Cat while in Dayton and played with it for a couple years before I was off to Anchorage. Did a couple of R/C monster trucks there and got back into boats when I realized JD was so close to me. I figured it would be a great opportunity to learn so I called him and it's all "water under the tunnel" from there.

Was married for 12 years but she decided married life was no longer "good" for her so we moved but I got the great end of the deal, our daughter. She's an awesome kid and helps to keep me grounded and my stuff clean. I'm also an avid bowler and so is she so that keeps us busy ocassionally. She qualified for the regional tournament where we drove to Heidelberg, Germany a couple of weeks ago and she did fairly well with games of 113, 116 & 143.

Back to boats, I hate building so I'd rather buy but expect to build a WOF here soon as I'll need the experience when my brother & I race out of Elkhart, Indiana in a couple of years.

Music? Classic rock predominately (gotto be loud) as most of this new stuff is crap.
