no crystal changing

This is what is hard to accept also for me...
Prior to stepping out of boats for a few years, I had just upgraded all of my boat recievers and transmitter modules to futabas latest and greatest "dial set" frequency setup. No more crystals.

ANY frequency conflict could be dealt with in a matter of seconds at the pond.. retaping the radio box lid was the only thing that had to be done...

I still have all of this barely used 75mhz equipment and love it.. It is some of the finest equipment futaba ever sold..

I've been in this hobby for 45 years. I used Futaba radio systems only and never even thought about using anything else. 3 years ago I decided it was time to replace my 3pm fasst system. The radio still worked great but I had money to burn so I dived into researching the latest and greatest systems on the market. Of course at first I was all in on another Futaba but to my surprise, I wound up with the Flysky Noble nb4 and couldn't be happier. The most common thing you'll hear people say about Flysky is "they're cheap so they can't be any good". Well, find a place to overpay for it then if it makes you feel better! Anyone who knows me or have seen my boats knows that I stay on top of the game and only use the best equipment available. I really can't speak for any of the other radios that Flysky offers because I haven't used them myself but a few club members are using the "cheap" gt3b with zero issues. Do the research, compare the specs. You might be as surprised as I am! I had to prove it to myself that the Flysky range specs were accurate and it performed well beyond their 300 meter claim. On top of that, the construction and durability of the Noble is far superior compared to Futaba or other brands on the market. Just my 2 cents.

I too bought a fly sky gt3c I was just building a fun boat to play with early last year never had a issue with it so I bought some extra receivers there super cheap problem is my fun boat is a rocket so I’m pulling the motor for a better hull.There’s things I really like about it like using a phone charger to charge the battery it feels good working it takes a little to get use to programming it but for just a fun boat works great the fail safe works good too.Hard to beat for 60 bucks I can’t buy a receiver for my futaba for under 65

Hey Bruce, I experienced first hand where the gt3c and gt3b can be a bit of a pain to initially set up. If you ever decide to bump up to the Noble, the touch screen is great and makes it so easy to set up. My dog could do it!

I was an Airtronics guy for years while racing cars. Its funny how the futabas were troublesome back in the 80s and even earned some derogatory names.. The one that sticks with me was the "Futaba Dance" if you saw some poor fella on the stand waving his radio wildly you could always count on someone mentioning the "futaba dance" Futaba has come a long way and are good solid gear, just pricey.. Since Airtronics has changed up and now Sanwa i had to make a decision on getting updated into the present. A fellow car racer turned me on to FlySky.. I was apprehensive as ive dropped quite a few bucks in my boat but he said the work well. So now im venturing into Flysky with the Noble NB4 model. i guess we will see how well it works on water. If it works as good on water as the touch screen and easy firmware updates its a winner!!!

OK... let me start by saying it really bothers me to even have to make this post, but being that NAMBA is going to DSM and I'm sure IMPBA will soon be following suite,,, it's just a matter of time until crystal radios will no longer be legal to race with.

I still think that crystal radios work fine, and I will continue to use mine for as long as possible.
But I also feel like it's not safe or fair to others when we all spend big money on our boats to race, and a radio failure or interference could wipe out another person's boat.

So, time has come for me to get some new radio gear. Typically, I wouldn't even question it and go straight to Futaba.

But, I would like to hear some other points of view on what others are using...I'm not interested in telemetry or all the bells and whistles, 7 channels, stick radios, etc.
4 channels tops... No Amazon garbage.

I just want to k ow what you are referring to as DSM. Not trying to make a statement or implying anything. I'm just not familiar with that terminology and wondered what it means and where you guys picked up the terminology. Thanks

Digital Spectrum Modulation….
IE: 2.4 gig transmitters and receivers now used in today RC radios…
FM 75 mz is no longer allowed for racing model boats.
No more frequency conflicts as the radios now “hop” to an unused frequency range in the 2.4 gig spectrum.. on there own,
No more dedicated crystals…

Thanks WW. I am familiar with the 2.4ghz ISM band and it's application for controlling DC models. I am also familiar with the notion "Spread Spectrum" and Frequency Hopping. I was just wondering what is being implied by the acronym DSM. Is that simply "Digital Signal Modulation"? If so PCM would fit the terminology. And who decided to apply this particular term?? Thanks again.

One problem has been that some people deliberately enter on the same frequency so that they never have to race each other. Then, they show up with 2.4 radio gear. This has been going on in both IMPBA and NAMBA for many years and is not fair to the orher competitors.

Like trap shooters, Al. The rule says if another shooter says he sees a chip from the target, it's counted as a hit. Shooters will pair up, and.not shoot without their " Chip Caller" shooting on their squad. Some kids will always cheat rather than admit a loss and absolutely refuse to grow up.

One Manufacturer calls it that, Spektrum. And I note comments in this thread advising to " avoid Spektrum".

I sold my fun boat with the fly sky gt3c radio I’m using my 44seaducer for my new fun boat wanted another radio so I bought a fly sky gp7 for the seaducer.Wanted something cheap to have at the camp site.It has telemetry and is easier to setup the my last fly sky.I really like this radio even has a range bar and takes a life pack.Has battery voltage and good range for 70.00 dollars shipped hard to beat.

You tube has tons of videos from all over the world of 2.4 airplanes suddenly falling out of the sky for no apparent reason . I don't think any system is without fault and phasing out a perfectly good system was a way to simplify setting up races . Forums are filled with discussions on binding problems and other signal loss issues . I upgraded to the 2.4 system so I could race but will never feel good about the phasing out of 75 Mghz .
