"Eight boat heats, eight boat heats, eight boats all the way, oh what fun to race and crash in an eight boat heat today. Blasting through turn one, eight boats side-by-side, it might best be called model tunnel suicide."

Just a thought but in my opinion 8 boat heats really suck. Trust me I am not afraid of the competition. Problem is back markers and dead boats are guaranteed which really hinders fair racing. Nothing worse than leading a heat taking the safe way on the outside of a dead boat and the guy behind you gambles taking the inside and possibly hitting the dead wood and makes it. I have hit my share of dead wood so I am guilty here too If a contest director would declare a boat within 5-10 feet of a pin as part of the course it would help. 8 also guarantees an altered course with different corners. James your European 1 pin on the back stretch would help with larger heats. So flame me now but when your boat gets destroyed or you get taken out of a heat cause someone just couldn't handle a crowd remember how you love those big heats. Driving with guys you regularily run with you know a bit more what to expect but with people you never have seen before what you perceive as eratic may be normal for them.

Oh well I better practice my starts and stay out ahead of the first turn "big one".

no flaming here, but large turnouts & heats are pretty much the norm for any nat'l. or internat. type event. to be expected going in. like tunnel bill told me "this ain't no d-12 points race". gonna be tough, but fun (i hope) :p .

With a race having 250+ boats entered and planned for 2 days, how can we not have anything but 8 boat heats? The choice we have is to go with fewer boats or 3 days to go with, say, 6 boat heats. With the entry limit now essentially upon us, we cannot make such a change now. Besides, every race we go to has 8 boats running in it as long as there are at least 8 boat in the class. Guarantee the Winter Nats and the Spring Nats will be that way too. 8 boats running in 20 or 40 tunnel does not concern me in the least. It can with F rigger and twin rigger and get your knees knocking.

-Carl,

Hi John why not next year run a 2 1/2 day race. start at 12 noon on friday. This year though no time for calling the racers name for every heat or wating on the talkers. When thr retrieve boat returns you are on the clock!!

At 256 boats that is 32 heats if you run 6 min per heat that is 3.2 hrs per round with no delay. don't have the time for the feet dragers. see ya Jimmy

Have your clip and be ready!!!, Know YOUR heat #, Got all day to be ready for 5 mins of action NO EXCUSES and ................................................... let me lead to show you the course

Steve H.

Jimmy,

I guarantee there will be no waiting. With a heat counter easily seen and a good PA system there is no reason that you will not be advised when you are up. The pit area is all in one area now so it is easy to be seen and checked in. We have tons of heats to run and if you are not ready, you will not run. There will be 2 pick up boats running and the pace will be very fast. Steve is right - know your heat #'s, no excuses.

Driver's meeting at 7:30 am and racing immediately after each day. Sat we will run until near dark and then eat!

We'll see how this race goes and make adjustments as needed for the future.

RACE ENTRY ALERT

We are almost at the 250 boat limit for the race. We have 2 classes that have an even 8 or multiple of 8 boat entered so I am CLOSING those classes for any more entries. They are:

E/F tunnel - 16 entries = 2 heats of 8 boats each.

Gas tunnel - 8 entries = 1 heat of 8 boats.

I am closing them slightly early of the max limit being reached to prevent having to split the heats and add even more heats to the race and that makes it longer. Every effort will be made to reduce the number of heats for the race when possible.

Another candidate soon will be Sport B, now with 55 entries. One more will make 56 boats which will be 7 heats of 8 boats each.

3-day race; 5 rounds!!!!! :D
I need as many rounds as possible to make up for the bad ones:)

Russ,

There are several possibilities on the table for the future races considering the response to the 2008 race. Your suggestion is one possibility. Jimmy's is too. Reducing entry numbers is another. We will be looking for suggestions at the race but let's hold the race first and see how it goes and what would be best or desirable all things considered. Some guys cannot get off from work the extra day and may lose them but not sure how many that will be. A lot of variables and considerations.

Man what an event- You guys are almost making me want a tunnel, but the Godfather and Hearle say we need a mono mafia branch also- Might just have to come up and make sure the branch doesn't need some in pit muscle and have some of them good eats on Sat. eve as well. Just to see what a real boat race is about, if nothing else. Hats off guys, looks like a first class event once again. ;)

John is the radio impound going to be a manned one?

Bill,

We are in the process of building the driver's & CD stands. A dedicated radio impound area will be included. This race has not been this large before and this question is one for us to address for sure. We have several future meetings upcoming and we shall talk about it.

John
