Bill,

How true you speak about a fast tunnel. First time attendees will get their eyes opened for sure. However, 4 heats guys, not 5, or we will be running on Monday!

The tunnel champs website has not been updated in a few days and will be tomorrow. We are at 220 entries now. Only 30 to go before the cutoff.

Cool,

I'm still looking for a motor, do you have a spare? If you talk the talk, you have to take it to..... TB

i can build you one, how long you want it to last? 3 heats   ?
3 Heats? Why you gonna give him that unfair advantage everybody else's is only gonna last 2!

By the way, speed was never an issue for me, but I would like to know if anybody has a trick for keeping the brakes dry? Mine get wet and don't grab; makes slowing down to make the turns way dificult! :p The only solution Ive found is to drive it like a dirt track car and throw it sideways to slow down. ;)

glad to see you learned something, all those sat. nites in wewahitchca, watching me from the pits B) ! the acorn don't fall far from the tree  .

Dang, after what happened to that Steeler defensive back making guarantees about beating the Patriots I'd think one might be cautions about making such a claim(even if it is true).

The difference is Grim's betting on a sure thing. Anthony Smith was just being stupid.

Mike,

Thanks for the compliment! The 2008 race will make the it the 3rd consecutive largest tunnel race in history. The 2006 had almost 100 boats, the one this past March had 151 and now the 2008 one will exceed the 250 mark. Just comes to show that tunnel boat racing is not dead as many have thought but is on a major resurgence. The CMB club greatly thanks all of the racers that have come and will come that have made it so and each of you has become part of making history. We aim to put on the best race on the planet.

John

Aparently there has been some debate about the ability of our club being able to uphold the rules as written by IMPBA. I am posting the IMPBA sport tunnel rules, for those who have entered and may not be familiar. These engines will be teched by the CMB club before the race, and the top three will also be teched after everyheat, just like we do at the internats. We will be using the Go-No Go gauges after the heats. Please NOTE: If you are found to be out of compliance with the rules, you will be disqualified. Now is the time to make sure your stuff is ready and legal. If you have questions, now is the time. The entire IMPBA rulebook can be viewed online at www.impba.net

Sport Outboard Tunnel Rules

Engine and Hull Specifications

1. There shall be one engine class, Class B.

2. The Sport outboard class shall use tunnel boats only.

3. The Sport outboard tunnel class shall not lock down the engine or use any

auxiliary steering system.

4. Original carb bore and exhaust configuration will be retained as

manufactured. No modification to the carb bore or exhaust outlets will be

allowed.

5. No high performance exhaust systems (tuned pipes) will be allowed, even if

they are offered by the manufacturer of the engine. Clarification: the two

outlet exhaust / muffler chambers offered by K&B and O.S. are not

considered tuned pipes and will be allowed in the Sport outboard tunnel class.

Engine Specifications

1. Engines must be standard factory production with a minimum of 100 units

available for sale to the general public. To be eligible for the International

Regatta the engines must have been offered for sale to the general public not

less than ninety (90) days prior to that year's International Regatta.

2. The powerhead and lower unit must be of the same manufacturer and model.

3. The engine external parts shall remain as originally manufactured within

series except as shown in Part 4. Clarification: No water-cooled engine parts

shall be used with air-cooled engine parts. Common engine parts that are used

on both engines models may be interchanged. Slide valve exhaust adapters

may not be used with carburetor equipped engines.

4. The following exceptions will be allowed in the Sport Outboard Tunnel

specifications.

a. Adhesives (loctite), set screws and jam nuts.

b. Any carb linkage arms.

c. Any motor mount.

d. Any glow plug, fuel brand and mixture.

e. Any type steering arm.

f. Any flywheel nut.

g. The lower unit below the cavitation plate may be trimmed, sharpened

or polished. No material shall be added to the lower unit.

h. Adjustable mixture controls will be allowed, however the original

needle valve must remain in its original position.

Sport tunnel engine inspection procedures

The maximum carb bore and exhaust outlet bore size shall not exceed 0.320 inches. These

may be checked with a 'GO, NO-GO' gage or dial calipers. Note: It will be the contestant’s

responsibility to check and verify carb bore and exhaust outlet bores prior to the contest. Any

infraction concerning the carb or exhaust bore sizes will result in immediate disqualification from the contest

James,

I've been told my SS is not "legal".. Reason given is the muffler adaptor has the hole in it along with the muffler being the SX version. "this is not how it came from K&B".. Well, it is a replacement muffler from K&B after losing one of the outer exhaust. Besides changing the muffler, it's stock. Figure this should still pass the go/no go plugs. Any thoughts? This could have been from jealousy since I was kick'n butt at the time! This is the motor that ran in the 07 race.

Mark, there were can mufflers adapters that came from K&B with the extra hole, and those without. Plain and simple. The SX can on the SS, well I can see how that could be construed as illegal, but that is the only part K&B is making as a replacement. They are both aircooled parts, and they do interchange. As long as the inlet/outlet have not been modified, and pass the go-no go, you will be allowed to race.
