How long untill it affects our hobby

As I noted on the Dock, the AMA got an exemption for ALL model engines from this rule. EPA is now aware of our use of these small engines, airplane, boats, and cars, and it seems that they will continue to exempt us from these onerous regulations. This actually started several years ago with a...

    1 or 2 st. servos

I use digital servos whenever possible for these reasons: 1 - I use a Futaba FASST 2.4 GHz radio and to take advantage of the HRS mode requires using digital servos. On the 3PM radio using HRS is the only way to set a failsafe that the radio remembers. And since I know I am going to forget to...

    question for the general public

All members of any AMA Special Interest Group (SIG) are required to be members of the AMA. 100% of that fee, currently $58 per year, goes to the AMA. Any dues charged by the SIG goes to the SIG. Some SIGS have dues, others do not. So if you are an IMPBA Life Member it would not be effected in...

2008 LA FE SAWs is getting close!!!

Just a comment about the other 2 SAWS events and the 2-Lap to be hosted at Legg Lake. These are open to ALL types of boats, gas, nitro, and fast electric. As long as it is legal in some NAMBA class you can run at these events. Personally I enjoy seeing the other types of boats running and...

    Who Needs a Neu....

How would you say they stack up on a 1/6th mile course?? OR just a mile long course regardless of the lap count??

    Futaba Issue

The advisory for FASST receivers is based on feedback on the 6014FS and 608FS aircraft receivers, some of which have shown a certain degree of sensitivity to heat. Basically the chip in those receivers has a temperature limit of 60 degrees C (146 deg F). So in high ambient heat environments it...

    Futaba Issue

If the LED on the RX is flashing green it means that the RX is receiving a signal, but it is from a transmitter that has not been bound to that RX. A solid red LED means that the RX is on, but is not receiving any signal. Mine will go red if they get wet. Dry them, spray with CorrosionX and...

    Darn It!!!

The 4PK differs from the 3PM FASST only in the channel count and programming features, is that correct? They both have the same RF deck and response time don't they??

    Gas Guys Questions

Here's the NAMBA Rule: This is for the "G" classes. The Open "GX" classes do not require the pull start. Notice that the rule does not REQUIRE the use of the recoil starter, only that it be present. Also note that the above rule is different from the previous rules. This new rule went into...

    Toy boats

Imagine what the guys flying $25,000 250 MPH turbine powered RC planes feel when they are told their jet is a "toy airplane'!!!

    Toy boats

Well, I had to put up with an airplane (toy airplanes that is) buddy asking me if I was out playing with "my widdle boats!!" Then I showed him what an 80 MPH fast electric mono looks like!! No more "widdle boat" comments. But in the end, they are what they are. Our toys. I never take offense...

    Radio

The reason has to do with the encoders. Making a radio that transmits a 14 channel information string but using it with a 3 channel RX would cause excessive latency. Conversely, a 14 channel RX cannot understand a data sting with only 3 channel so of information in it. This chart shows which...

    Radio

Also keep in mind that the 3 channel FASST RXs can only be used with the 3 and 4 channel FASST systems and the 6 channel RXs can only be used with the 6 channel and above systems. Has to do with the encoding of the channel info. Kind of like you cannot use the 14 channel RX with the 6 channel...

Easy way to get into Fast Electrics

I agree. The SV27 is a great way into FE boats. Set it up with Lipos and you have an honest 40 mph boat. Good place to learn the ropes of FE. Chargeing, battery care, etc. Then decide where you want to go from there. They are a hoot to race too!! Plus you can run them about anywhere.

    Time to look at FE

Here's a good site that let's you play around and see what the different packs nomenclature means: http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_lipo.html Jay - Axi motors are very popular in the airplane world. http://www.icare-rc.com/modelmotors_axi28.htm#AXI_2814/10 The motor he mentioned is a 1590...

    Time to look at FE

Well it sort of depends on what you plan to do with it. For sport running it will be fine. Runs times will be shorter. I use around 5,500 to 6,000 mAh of capacity for a heat race, so you may be tight if you want to race. Either that or prop way down to keep the amp draw in line. Besides run...

    ATTENTION RACERS

I got hit this past week for $5,000. They started Friday night taking $1,000 from checking and another $1,000 from my money market account. Did it again on Saturday, tried again on Sunday but only got $1,000 before the banks computers kicked in. I found out about it Monday morning (call and...

    Time to look at FE

I like the Hyperion EOS0610i DUO charger. It has built in balancers and can do two 6S packs at up to 8 amps each at the same time. They run about $270 each and with two of them you can cover anything you need to. You really only need two if you are racing a 2P set up that uses 4 packs. My 10S...

2008 NAMBA FE Nationals - ALMOST HERE!!

And that was when we used NiMHs. Wait until you see what we can do now with Lipos!!! Plus we'll have at least 2 classes of large boats going - T mono and T offshore. 10S (42 volt max) boats with motors the size of a soda can pulling 200 amps and turning up around 30,000 rpm. Oh yeah, we're going...
