PS You'll have to ask Jerry Dunlap, the team press officer, what FROG stands for.
First without asking Jerry I will take a stab and this is only in jest please take no offense
FROG = Fast Racing Old Gezzers.
Like I say just a guess!
My name is Ron Byrd and I am a Life Safety Technician with 10 years in the field. Prior to that an Electrician for 15 years.
I am a past NHRA Pro Cycle Champion and while I am retired from drag racing I still love to hang out at the Gator Nationals every year. The smell, the sound and the raw HP of the Nitro Funnies and TF is fuel for my exsistence
. I also have a close friend of the current Pro Cycle ranks that is just getting into RC Boat racing, who knows maybe we can get a few more of them into this great hobby.
I have been into some sort of RC Hobby for the last 25 years or so starting out just building and running them at the local lake to pass the time of day. I have ran 1/12, 1/10 and 1/8th cars both on and offroad. I have been racing Boats in IMPBA and NAMBA for close to 15 years now. My current classes are 20 Mono, 60 Mono, 90 Mono, Scale and Sport 40. I aslo just recently aquired a 90 Rigger that I have raced at two events so far. I started out in racing with a Prather 3.5 OB Lap Cat and the first year went to 5 events without ever finishing 1 heat but the next year things turned around for me. I have since won several District Championships in Sport 40, 20 Mono and once in 60 Hydro with an AC Nitro Cat also one time runner up in Scale missing the top by only a few points. I have served as District Secretary/Treasurer and I am currently Assistant Director in NAMBA District 3.
I own and operate a small Hobby business: Race Craft Bearings & Hobby which I started in 1999 by suppling only bearings (WIB brand) to my fellow racers. I have added other items along the way and have also developed two Boat Racing programs that are now on the market and gaining acceptance in the US and abroad.
Hope to get to meet some of you at the lake sometime this year or next!
Yours in Boating! Ron BYrd
