We attended the SGRA Invitational for 15-20 yrs and it was held the last weekend in Oct or first weekend in Nov. The weather was seemingly great every year. One of the great things was being able to race without the heat. We had only one year when it was cold and had to buy some gloves.

The hydros Nationals was held one year in Slidell in July and it was brutal. BTW does anyone know where the "MAN" trophy mold might be. It was one of the most unique trophies. Those that won one I am sure have kept them because of being so unique. Fortunately I have three. Boy if that trophy could be brought back it would be really cool. Doc
"MAN" trophys. That was a great trophey. We had a few of those around here, but I think our kids pulled the Avenger hydro off so they could play with them LOL.

Guys,

We have no problem with the end of October. If anyone has a man trophy that is in good shape that we can pop a mold off of I could probably get that done also.

The VooDoo Model Boat Club will do an outstanding job. Their site was second to non and with the improvements it's even better.

Carlo, Jessie and crew know how to put on a great race. Regardless of the date it will be an event to remember.

My only concern with the late October time frame is we will be stacking three BIG events within about a 6 week period. I can't help but wonder if one of the three events will suffer attendance wise because of racers having to make a choice with the dates being so close. I'm fortunate enough that I most likely will be able to get the time but not so sure for others. Would like to have some feedback on this folks........

Guys,

If we can make late October work I think it would be the ideal time of the year as the weather would be absolutely perfect. It seems as though there are races planned throughout the Fall and no matter what date we choose it will be very tough to make everyone happy. October has ideal weather for this type of race and it would really make for perfect racing conditions and a great race. We will do our best as a club to make any dates that are chosen work, but we would love to see everyone that attends be able to enjoy the race without dealing with the brutal heat of Summertime in Southern Louisiana.

This is the IMPBA Nitro Nationals and we would like to have the opportunity to showcase every aspect of this race with the best that we can offer including the weather. I hope that as racers you guys will consider what is best for this prestigious race and consider a date like late October so the race will be a very enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance. Our main goal is to make sure that everyone enjoys there time at our facility while racing for a National title and if the weather is enjoyable then normally so is the race itself.

Yes it will be hard to make the Fall Nationals and this event financially . Fall Nats cost me about $800.00 Twice in one month would be hard but i sure would like to go to a Nats , first one , at this killer site !

I think we raced in Slidell in March with the mono event and the weather was also good. This would be ahead of the Atlanta race. Racing in the spring may get the guys out of the North and snow to race. Also Ron Wagner who had the MAN trophies made in the past might know where the mold might be. Maybe worth contacting him.

It would be interested to know how many folks have a MAN trophy and are still racing?????????

well you have sept or Nov too
Julian,November is not possible as that is the month we hold our Annual World Championship race. It could be late in September but not the beginning as there is a series race on schedule for September 6,7,8.

Doc,We do hold the The Mike Cantavespri Memorial Race each year in March at our pond, but we are willing to move it around to accommodate this race. I think you mean Don Wagner for the trophy, I will have to call Chris Herzog and see if he has a contact number for Don Wagner. I think it would be great to bring these trophies back after all these years.

OK so we have these options lets discuss these and get something going:

End of October (Great Weather)

End of September (Good Weather could still be a little warm but not unbearable)

Beginning or end of March (Great Weather)

Here is a cool link to let you know what the average weather is like for the times of the year in new Orleans:

End of March would be great at least from a Weather point of view. Not really anyother races that would be in conflict with this time of year. After working on boats in the winter there should be a lot of pent up desire to race especially those in the snow.

Doc,

We as a club can make the end of March work as long as it is OK with Don as this is his baby. Lets see what everyone has to say and we can get this on the books and start preparing everything.

We still need IMPBA board approval to deviate from the July-August time frame. I'd like to get feedback from IMPBA members on this thread as to their thoughts on holding the event in early spring as March might be too early for many (still cold here that time of year). Also what about 2nd or 3rd week of April?

Just my opinion but March is pretty early for us Northern racers, I doubt if many of us will have had a chance to do any local testing of our new builds and setups, due to "water conditions"..

Yeah that's what I'm concerned about, tough to get ready tuning on hard water eh? Might have to go back to looking at end of October to be fair to our northern members............

I'm with Tony on this. March is early for us to get out and test in this area.

Just my 2 cents

It is nice for a club to come forward to hold this, no matter what time of the year they hold it!

Thanks,

Steve Ball
