intresting post !

here about 80 % of the nitro guys are running Gas now ..not becouse of the speed or bigger motors , but most of them had a hard time to adjust it right and sitting a lot of the time in a retrieval boat . now with gas they have little bigger boats , but pull and run .. no adjustments to make and easy boating .. the die hard's still run Nitro but have at least 1 gasboat to play run with ..

i just updated my website about zenoah tuning with detailed pics. . may be i can help some one out ...

Have fun !

Don has it right....

Thank God Andy is trying his hardest to get it all done...

Believe me he knows his engines will sell as he makes them....

They will fly out the door. It just is not easy to do....

It will happen...

Don have you seen Achmed Yet?

Joe

Australian Nationals back in April had 111 nitro boats, 112 gas boats and 22 electric boats entered.

Nitro ain't dead, it just has competition.

Electrics are getting bigger and when they do, the gas boaters will be worried that they will take over.

There is nothing that compares to the twin hydros and I think 36 ounces of fuel a run is well worth the buzz you get from driving it.

As I posted elsewhere, part of the Angus/Dow press release-

"ANGUS will continue to be supportive on nitromethane sales into other key markets where the molecule is sold and used in de-sensitized levels. Nitromethane is used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of agricultural fumigants and pharmaceutical products. Hobby racing fuel for remote-controlled vehicles is also a key market; ANGUS fully supports the hobby racing fuels market for remote-controlled vehicles where formulations are sold at de-sensitized levels of 55 percent or less nitromethane."

They pulled the plug on supplying the drag racers due to basically zero security & control of the nitromethane. Angus/Dow, being a U.S. based company, did not want to be attached to the liability should someone have stolen nitro from a drag racer they sold to & went & blew up a building or something.

What is the status?

Are the engines available now?

anybody paying 55 bucks a gallon for 50% is nuts. i just bought 60% at 28 bucks a gallon, shipped. (magnumfuels.com) Nitro racing is alive and well!!!!!!!! we do need picco to start production on the 67's again.

I LOVE NITRO !!!!!
Yep, not that I wouldn't mind running a gas boat after driving one or 2  but-

There is no better feeling than dialing in a nitro boat through sweat and tears , and hitting the nail on the head squarely when its all said and done. B)

Plus they smell cool as heck ;) ;) ;)

A boat race WOULD NOT be the same without the smell of nitro in the air IMHO ;)

Kinda like a diesel drag race

Talk about a thread from the past :)

No one has stated how much a good gas boat is compared to a nitro the engines are ridiculous same with the hull i stick with nitro once nitro dies i wont race any more

I think for some people it goes back farther than boats.....My addiction with nitro started when i was 9 or 10 flying(and crashing) 1/2a control line airplanes (Cox .049 engines..anyone remember those days?) then Fox .35 powered CL planes on 52' steel lines...thats all i could afford to play with as back in those days RC equiptment was EXPENSIVE! Lots of people have no idea how good we have it these days when it comes to anything RC related as far as prices go...Ive got NOTHING against gas boats what so ever and maybe someday Ill have me a gas thunderboat, BUT Nitro will always be my favorite..like Andy said when you get it right, its AWESOME! Screaming motors, the best smell there is, the challenge....it just ROCKS! And nitro still looks like its still going petty strong to me. I still remember the first time i threw in my first 40 hydro so many years ago, a pinckert coyote with a K&B 7.5 I.B......when the pipe came on, man i was SHAKIN! What a RUSH! And i still get it to this day, no matter whether its an RTR or a scale hydro....its all still VERY, VERY GOOD!

Nitro is not dead. It is just tougher to figure out. And requires a lot of patience. When someone finally figured out how to make a gas boat run fast a lot of folks became attracted to running gas. Different classes and fuels for different interests. :)

You had better share Buck ;) MMMMM Popcorn !!!!!

I got the cold one's covered :p :p :p :p

I'm pretty sure Norm and Bill nailed it-

"Nitro is not dead. It is just tougher to figure out. And requires a lot of patience".

That in itself is half the fun for me ;)

Plug and play is nice , but some things require a little BST to make them even more enjoyable -

It's kinda like fly fishing(for those that fish) your really gotta hate yourself REAL good

Andy

gas is for cleaning parts- alcohol is for drinking- and NITRO IS FOR RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
