No one has stated how much a good gas boat is compared to a nitro the engines are ridiculous same with the hull i stick with nitro once nitro dies i wont race any more
Huh? A stock zenoah is $200. A typical mod zenoah is anywhere from $450 to $600. Show me how much a CMB 91RS or 101 is ;)
A new Novarossi .21 is $215 and in a rigger, will eat a stock 260 Zenoah for lunch :)
apples to oranges  Let me put one of my gas rigger props on your 21 boat and lets see how well it does

What does that have to do with anything??????????????????
What does the price of a .21 have ANYTHING to do with the price of a CMB bigblock????????????????

I just have to say this: (ranting)

I am just about the only one of a few in our area still running nitro. It ha turned over to mostly gas boats. I am building a Whiplash GV, which should be ready in a couple weeks. This is so I can be gauranteed to race. At our last race only 20 hydro made.

But what I seen is that the people who had issues with getting nitro boats to run are the same ones who are having performance issues with the gas boats. The only thing that has changed is the fuel and the size of the boats.

No, now that's apples to oranges. Let me put a 21 prop on the 260 and see how IT goes.

I'm talking MPH-MPH
I'll bet whatever amount of money you want, that ill at least be able to throw my boat in the water and it keep running with your 21 prop before you ever will with my smallest gas prop

Show me the fastest Rossi 21 powered Rigger, and ill show you the fastest Zenoah powered Rigger.

Or how about this... make your 21 boat weigh what my gas rigger weighs, and we can compare mph.

Again... i asked a simple question of price on a bigblock that is comparable to our gas motors.... and the haters come out with snide remarks as usual.

Will,

this is ridicules. We all know Nitro is faster than Gas, just look at the records. Even Grims gas boat can't run with his F boat. We just came from Flint.

And for the record, I run both Nitro and gas and am not a newbi.

Nitro is far from dead

It was a reply to a comment showing that you can get into fast nitro racing for a reasonable cost with a $215.00 Novarossi.

And in the meantime of your original post to slam gas boats.... you obviously completely missed the reason for my question.

Hate on!

Dont make stupid comments and i wont give them back to you. Again... YOU brought it upon yourself to compare a 21 boat to a gas boat...

sooo.... the 1/16 record for B hydro = 101.9mph, and not with a Rossi. LS27 Rigger is 104.X. I guess the 21 boat wont eat up the zenoah boat  See how stupid that looks. Again... WHAT IS THE PRICE OF A CMB 91RS or 101???????? Is it that hard to get something so simple answered?

And Walt... you are sadly mistaken if you think im some newb who began my hobby in boats with gas. I ran nitro for a long time before ever considering a gas boat.

I'm done !

and yet still cant answer my original question... which proves the reason you posted in the first place. Thanks.

The cost of a 101 is $550, what does a QD rear exhaust cost?

ONCE AGAIN you start mentioning things that have NOTHING to do with my original question. So a CMB 101 is $550... wow... looks like about the same amount of money as the average mod Zenoah. Point of my original post made

BTW a QD25HT Rear Exhaust with pipe is $850. And thats a $200 pipe... so $650 for the engine. $100 more then the CMB... whew BIG DIFFERENCE!.

Now im done... too many shoulders with a chip on em around here.

Will,

The original topic was "Nitro is dead" is not being discussed now. It has turned into a pissing match about which is best, nitro or gas. I will answer that by simply saying "It is what ever you want it to be and choose to run". There is NO winner or loser among which one, but the true winner is simply the hobby. Keep focus on that.

If you choose to run gas that is fine, if you choose to run nitro, that is fine, if you choose to run both, that is also fine. Anyone that chooses to behave different, YOU are the problem and not what some else chooses to run. This hobby is way too small for people to run around with chips on their shoulders, and that includes you or anyone else. Before dishing out lashes against other boaters, take a LONG look in the mirror at yourself FIRST.

Let's get back on topic or do not post. Hope to see you at the Fall Nationals at Charleston in October.

Actually my original question was NOTHING about what is best... cause when it comes to whats best for pure speed, its neither gas or nitro.

My question came on from someone saying it was so much more for gas over nitro, when that is not the case when you compare engines of the SAME caliber (IE a BIGBLOCK vs Zenoah/Cy/RCMK, etc.).

The problem is you cant mention ANYTHING about gas around here without the haters coming out to bash.

The Nitro /Gas thing cracks me up..Comparing Fuels.. NitroMethane beats Gasoline hands down no BS about it. Take two identical gas riggers one on GAS and the other on FUEL. And see who's arse puckers up first. :)

Example=14.6 kg of air is required to burn one kilogram of gasoline, but only 1.7 kg of air for one kilogram of nitromethane. Since an engine’s cylinder can only contain a limited amount of air on each stroke, 8.7 times more nitromethane than gasoline can be burned in one stroke. FUEL EQUALS POWER. The more fuel you trap and burn the more power you make. HOWEVER you need Oxygen to burn fuel.. soooooooo nitromethane generates about 2.3 times the power of gasoline when combined with a given amount of oxygen.

Talk about going off on a tangent eh..

Bottom Line---If they let us burn Nitro in the big motors ....... Well :)

THATS what would be interesting.................

every 10% of nitro picks up 1000rpm in a zenoah. Up to 15% is "safe"... lots of detonation issues with 20% or higher, still using spark ignition. Ive already been in the 20,000rpm range on gasoline with some of my motors and puking cranks doing it... more rpm wouldnt be benefitial.

Guys,

I have to agree with M@MRacing. If nitro dries up completely, I'm going back to playing guitar. I gave it up to get into model boating. I can go back just about as easily..........

If I hear one more person tell me that gas is "so much easier", I think I'm going to PUKE...... I didn't get into this hobby because I was looking for something easy. I was looking for a challenge. It's this challenge that keeps this hobby alive. Without the challenge, this hobby will die. People who choose the easiest route through anything in life are lazy, and lazy people will eventually find something eaven easier yet and quit what they are currently doing.

When I first started in this hobby, I went through my learning curve, like everyone else. While going through this learning curve, I observed several guys really struggling with it. some of them got it and some didn't. I never hear any of those who "figured it out" are still running nitro. Those who didn't have either evaporated or they are running gas now. I saw several guys who had piles of cash to through at something. They decided to give model boating a try. When the money didn't make it easy for them like it always had, they switched to gas. Now they have boats that won't die, some of them run halfway decent. But because they didn't go through that learning period with a boat that was well within their diving capacity, they are just downright DANGEROUS on the course. This is my biggest issue with gas .

As for cost, nitro wins, hands down. Dollar for dollar spend on an engine, a nitro boat will spank a gas boat on any given day. You're comparing the cost of a Zenoah VS the cost of a CMB big block. I'm not up on the prices anymore (I havent been in the market for a new engine in a long time), but most guys I talk to spend AT LEAST as much on their Zenoah's as anybody does on any CMB big block.

My 21 hydro will hang with some of the fastest gas riggers, and I can fit my 45 rigger (which will lap most gas riggers in a 6 lap heat) right next to it in the trunk.

Dave Roach made a comment to me one day about my inline twin boat.......... "If it doesn't work out, you can always drop a Zenoah in it........." My response? "Somebody else can, right after I sell it to them."

Plain and simple: I've run nitro since I got into this hobby, and I always will.

And, NO! I'm not a hater. I just don't have any use for the "easy" way out....... I don't mean to offend anyone, it is what it is.

Thanks. Brad.

Drew,

CHUG, CHUG, CHUG.........

The boat is nearly complete. There are a number of projects complicating the situation, but I'll hopefully have them done before long and be able to concentrate with a bit more sincerity on getting it done. It's entered in the Hobart, IN Masters race in Sept., so........

I still have a brand new cowl for my 45 Crapshooter that needs finished before I can paint it........... <_<

Thanks. Brad.
