Looks like the FAA has stepped in - https://www.faa.gov/uas/registration/
Probably never, since hydroplanes can only attempt to flyIt had to happen eventually. With the blatant violations of no fly zones and FPV systems, "Big Brother" wasn't given much choice but to react. The only problem now will be the same as it is to gun owners, lay abiding people will register their aircraft, criminal types won't. Now comes the big question:
When will this registration requirement be slapped on boats and wheeled vehicles as well?

I wonder how many will end up in a tree or worse because someone forgot about elevation and flying timeJust saw an online ad for a control system today. Draw a line on the map on your laptop, download it to the quadcopter, goes where you drew the line. Program, push a button, walk away, scary scary shxt. We have had about half a dozen GROWN men come into the lhs I work at & purchase high dollar quads for hunting. Both for scouting & wanting to herd deer to them! Wonder how many will get shot down......
