Pipe is a Rossi. I will use an O.S. 180degree header. Give me a good length to start with, Tom :D

my car pipe it is non adjustable. I measured it at 7 1/2" from plug to weld. I measured my OS CZR's side exhaust and macs pipe at 8" I would say these are conservative starting points.

Thanks a bunch Tom. If I have to I can cut the header about 1" and be okay. I can't cut the rossi, either. What kind of pipe joint is that?

Hey Tom! I was looking at your pic. I was looking at the heat sink. Looks like you got it on car style. You should give it a quarter turn. Since the engines are mounted sideways in cars, the openings in the heat sink will be facing front and back. To get the same effect with a boat, you will have to turn them so they are facing fore and aft. This is what I was told, anyway. Am I being fed crap? Let me know what you think.

hummm never even thought about it..... ill bet your right!

I'm not really sure, but it makes sense having the air go through it. Let's see what Don has to say about it.

I don't know about you Tom but I'm turning mine for sure. Makes good sense!

Don

Hey Don! If you look at the side veiw, you will see the difference in the sponson shape. This .12's sponsons are curved where the drawing in" BLUE FOAM?" is not, and there is no step.

Hammer

Ya Hammer,

I was just sitting here and staring at the side shot of your boat

and noticed the same thing. I can also see why you didn't have

to cut out the cowl for your manifold. Your engine is at a very

steep angle. Mine is not at very much of an angle at all and

sits very low in the hull. I even built in a well for the the flywheel

and belt clearance. That's how we did it with straight shafts to

keep the angle down. Obviously I'm using an "S" bend in my

stuffing tube. ;D

Don

Hey Don! The reason I have such a steep angle is that I don't like putting the stuffing box through the radio box. I didn't have much room to play with. The bend in the stuffing tube is gradual enough, I think ::)With the 90s and bigger boats, I always had plenty of room to play with. Not with these little farts, but I still can't bring myself to invade the radio box.

Here are some close ups of the sponsons I'm building right now.

The first pic gives you a look at the Hammer cuts, and the second shows you the bamboo I use for a bumper.

That's a good idea leaving room in the radio box. The inside of

mine is 2-1/2" X 9" and the tube goes about half that distance.

If it wasn't for that I could put hump pack batteries up in the

front,to improve the CG instead of 5 in a row.

I really appreciate the pictures and info on the sponson design. I'm

going to order some foam and give it a try.

Thanks again

Don :p

Hey Don! What kind of Hydro are you planning on building? Will it be another .12. If it is, I will draw up the plans for my sponsons, and post them. I will draw up the plans for my entire boat and post them if you want.

Hammer:

I really appreciate the offer but I think from all the information you've

given me so far I'm in pretty good shape. I'm just in the playing around

stage with a 2nd .12 right now. I've attached a rough sketch of what

I'm thinking about. It's just a variation of the Hammer Cut

and the other drawings you sent. Puts the TE back an inch farther

than on my boat now.

Been looking all over for a flywheel for the pilot shaft engines but

no luck so far.

Marty Davis over at RCBOAT has a set up for the Road Runner Boats.

He says to set the bottom of the strut and the rear sponsons 1/8"

shallower than the fronts TE. I'm thinking that with the small props we

use on the .12s maybe they should be set at 1/16" shallower. I don't

know, just thinking again! : :)

"HEY" What happened to the little red devil. Not that I don't think your

new picture is very nice but I really miss the devil! ;D

I would love to see a set of plans for your .12 hydro. ;D I'm Sure others on here would love to see them as well. Would you draw them in CAD? if so, can you write the plans in .dxf format so that it would be possible to plot out full size plans? Maybe Tom could post them in "plans" area? That would be really cool!

Let us know what you decide! :D
