Joe,

If you sell a boat to a Chinaman then it is the Chinese that support the American economy. You supported it when you initially bought the boat. And I would have to say that whenever you buy something that was assembled in America then your are supporting the American economy. Not everybody can be a non-laborer. We need jobs for people to put there hands on. America was founded on manufacturing and if we loose it then I guess it will die by manufacturing.
Agreed. What many fail to realize is that our export sales count on offshore labor. No country is going to let you import products without benefiting their labor market. Some sort of balance needs to exist.

Mike, I'm changing the brake pads on the Sport-trac and guess who makes them. Bosch. Agqain, not American.

Some of the early 5-speeds in the small trucks had problems with the seals going south on them, leaking the fluid out and frying the tranny. I had to replace the starter in a my Ranger Sunday and guess who made that? General Motors!

"Mike, I'm changing the brake pads on the Sport-trac and guess who makes them. Bosch. Agqain, not American."

Well Bosch has a HUGE plant here in the states. Most all Hondas are now assembled over here giving thousands of Americans jobs yet the final dollar winds up in Japan. It's all enough to make your head spin.....

Damn, I'm hijacking my own thread!

Bosch has a huge plant that has over 2000 employees making all kind of brake parts and fuel injection systems here in North Charleston, SC. Every 18-24 months they are expanding operations. Over 5 expansions in less than 9 years speaks well of what they are doing. They are capturing a larger share of the market. A lot of money here but it is a German corporation.

Man, what's all this got to do with a friggen table? Talk about spinning off subject :p :p :p Anyway, has anybody looked at who makes your shoes lately? If the chinese were to tell to %&*#, we'd all be be going around barefooted.

If it's a Nike, it made by a 4 year old future soccer player from Peru.

Don, blame this highjacking on KP. He's the one that brought up the "buy American" thing!

Don,

Tables look great.. Thanks for taking the effort to bring this table back to all.

Well, I did try to stay out of this spinned off subject, but here I go.. I work for an International company that their core Business is making Machines. Every day I go into work, I'm wondering if my job is going to either India, Brazil or Mexico.. And yes, I've watched fellow workers sent overseas to train others how to do the job that was being done here in the states. :(

Mark..

I truly have nothing against overseas MFG. Its true that our nation (US) built its strength in MFGing and its true that we are heading to lose this aspect. Having said this i do think that we have other strengths that we can lean on..

Now.. Im old school and that is why all the products that we MFG (PSRP,LLC.) are done state side. I like to go to bed knowing that i have done what i can to help my local community and other US shops in there quest to make a living.

I know, i know, my ply comes from Finland. Heck most of the cutting tools that i use to make the kits are made overseas too.

I told myself years ago when i started PSRP,LLC that i would say focused and keep MFG stateside or close the business.. We have not closed yet nor do we have any intentions of doing so.

Again nothing against overseas vendors, A good friend and extremely talented designer works in and is from China… this is just not the focus of my company. I also have a friend (this dude is one smart cookie and has the patent for sidewalk chalk.. think about it. .) that is part owner in the largest tool and die shop in china and i could have tooling and what ever i want done there for pennies on the dollar... again just not the focus of my company.

Don,

If you stick with the Quikstand table and I have a feeling you will. ;) Make a decision now as to what your focus is. Sick with it.

This is what I know. In the order of my perceived priority.

1. You want to fill a need.

2. You want it to be self-supportive. (not cost you huge bucks in the long run, but does not need to make you a ton of money either)

3. You want it to be affordable.

4. The company wants to be run out of a race trailer and never grow.. Trust me this is OK to do..(did I read you right on this?)

1. It fills the needs of those that have wanted one..

2. This is going to cost you time and money up front. You knew this anyway no big surprise here. Do you know how many tables you need to sell to hit the even point. ( I bet you do)

3. Relative. If the buyer thinks its to much then it is..(go buy something else) If the buyer thinks its inexpensive then it is. (you have a happy customer) Just keep the quality high like you have and you have all the product backing you need.

4. STICK WITH IT.

Did I just babble on again…

ROCK ON :D

I know what you mean Mark. A lot of the Tool and Die/Die and mold

Industry has Been headind for Mexico or overseas. Use to be real nice when you knew there was always going to be work. Now you have to worry about being layed off or not.

Sorry bout that. I thought that maybe you were trying to imply something.

I do want to say that the tables look really nice and if I didn't have other projects in line I would want one. Maybe next time around :D .

Me? I'd never do a thing like that :p :p :p :p :p

BTW: Waited till I got home to put that posting up

This is why im glad I work in a mostly clinical setting for the healthcare industry (biomed technician), one thing is for sure, unfortunately, people will always be sick and theres no way we can logically send them overseas for treatment on a regular basis even if it would cost thousands less. Sick people need hospital / medical equipment to in order to be treated, thus the equipment needs to be maintained, which is where I come in.

That was a big deciding factor as to what industry i wanted to go in while in college....

Don, A friend in my club has one of the original qwikstand tables and it is a great product, and it sounds like youve made it even better. Good Luck!

I bet this thread will hit 2,000 views by the day's end. All for a table.

It may even beat the Blackjack, Warlock thread.

But seriously Don, how much without the top?
