I run 65% O'Donnell fuel or 68 to 70 % homemade fuel with a full

synethic oil mix. It has worked well for 16 years why change now?

.21 motors of course, the fastest boats in a time trial.

Most of the speed is in the propeller fellas, not the fuel.

Thanks,

Thanks guys, I think this time around I will go straight to 50% for the 1.0 CMB after a run in on 20%.

Seems the Redmax fuels are the way to go. Not sure if I can get it locally. I wonder what additive they use...?

Yeah I can't get Redmax or O'Donnel racing fuels locally, so I will chase up a custom blend.

18% Oil 15/3 Castrol/Klotz

50% nitro

Would love to know some details of any additives you guys know about..

Hi Brad just a thought maybe idea to run in with fuel you intend to use all the time if you run in with 20% then jump to 50% you will have to basically run it in again.

any thoughts.

Dave.

I didn't think any motor liked initial run-in on 50% nitro. Maybe the CMB's like it. I don't know. Any other opinions?

Better question is how much you guys pay for your nitro fuel. Im running 87 octane gas in the 60's with my cat. on a zenoah 260  .

PS: may I add only 42.9 a liter thus $1.62 a gal

I've always broken motors in on the fuel I'm going to run in them racing. B)

After just doing some calculations and thinking about fuel mixes I can see why the higher the nitro content the less % oil you need as nitro is not the combusted propulsion liquid and the methanol is.

So I can see that aiming to keep the methanol % at an optimum point is where a fuels power will come from, of course factoring into the effect of nitro as well.

Another explanation is if you keep the % oil the same (eg 20%) for 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% nitro you end up getting less and less methanol to work with, which would limit the fuels potential.

So by lowering the oil content to 15% as some have suggested gives you back more methanol.

Don do you have any issues with running 15% oil, and has anyone gone lower than this with higher nitro blends on bigger motors?

Another question, I always have been told to keep a little bit of non-synthetic oil such as "castrol m" in all fuels - approx 5%. Any opinions and suggestions whether this is needed with todays synthetics?

Well Andrew the thing is the gas boaters here in the states are running racing fuel or AV gas. Such fuels are not $1.62 per gallon.

I mix my own at 70% for .21's and 50% for all others with 18% synthetic/caster mix. No probelms I had a bearing go ur just be fore the Internats but it hadn't been changed since 1999.

unfortunately, we pay 32$ for a gallon of 60% redmax at our local hobby shop....not much of a bargain. One day when im rich, im gonna just buy a couple cases from the manufacturer....seeing is how FHS is in S.C. (my homestate)

Topfuel

Why not mix your own fuel. I have been mixing fuel for 10 years and for 60% it:s about 17.00 dollars a gallon.

I really should actually, we have about 20 gallons of nitro left from our topfuel dragbike days....wonder if its still good?

anybody feel like sharing there fuel mixing specs?
