Using a multimeter is there a way to test the blast on a fluorescent fixture? Unit is less then year old, has power and new lamps.

If you used the old ballast it probably went on you cheaper to buy new fixture with ballast then just the ballast

Throw out the multimeter and test it like a 9 volt battery Ray. Stick your tongue on it. Lol

Rob, it's 1 of 3 in my wife's office, can't find a match. New ballast maybe only way. Thanks Ray

If it is a 6 foot light they dont make those any more go to a 4 footer you have just as much light. Also if it is that style 6 foot be hard to find the ballast

Yes get the T 12s better ballast and you can put some bright bulbs in there if needed, i just changed the old style 6 footers wow my house stunk from the ballast

Ray,

I'm just a shade tree electrician but i did set up my new shop last winter with the 4 ft T8 32 watt fixtures, I'm pretty sure I saw new style replacement magnetic ballasts at Menards when I bought the fixtures, not that pricey. I also went with the newer daylight spectrum bulbs, they are bright and bring out the boats true to colors.

Be very careful when changing ballast in fluorescent lights...the electricity in them will arc and could kill you. Lots of folks have had heart attacks or worse so cap each wire off 1 at a time to prevent shock.

I've been popped by 277V ballasts more times than I can tell you (we have to change them hot in commercial buildings). It'll get your attention but it won't kill you.

I have to agree with Don, voltage isn't all it takes to do you in. Unless the amperage is there as well, voltage of that magnitude NORMALLY won't be fatal..
