Hi all,i am new to this site but it is good to see the tunnels are alive and kicking in Aus, i have been away from racing for a few years but am getting back into it in a big way.I have got a new HTB 290 & 360 hulls getting sprayed up at the moment so hopefully will be racing them soon, also just got my Salacraft gas mono together(yet to be tested)dusted off my gas shovel nose and brought a 1973 Pay n Pac 1/8th scale pickle fork and a set of plans from the states so should keep me busy for a while.I hope to see a few of you Aussie guys racing sooner(preferably) or later i am going to join the Hunter Valley again.Safe racing

Gino,

Don't think you've scared me off with your high powered fancy pants 7.5cc Outboard, I've now got a spare engine for my one and I'm keen to show you the way around the course

With you, Murph and me all we've got to do is get Greg and the Killer back on the water and we're back in business!! Let's make sure we've all got them there for the next race meeting.

Regards,

James

James, I'm glad I haven't scared you off - fancy pants Elvis jumpsuit and all !!!

Can't wait for you guys to get them back into the water, i would love for you to show me the way around the course!

Gotta say guys HURRY UP AND BUILD THOSE P-SPEC BOATS

They are awsome, ran both of ours on the weekend and I am VERY impressed...some minor tweaks and all will be good...the other good thing is that you can use all the normal 21 outboard props (like X640 and stuff)

Cheers

Kris

I'm building one - all be it slowly! Still in the parts gathering phase!

Blackjack, Aquacraft SV27 & UL-1 motors are OK to run in P spec, right? The GP Ammo equivalents OK?

I had a "vision" and I'm crossing over to the spark side :D . Kris convinced me to put one together and after seeing how his ran on Sunday I'm looking forward to gettting it completed. Still waiting on a few bits and pieces.

Mine is ready to go...

Just cannot run it cause i dont have a steering bracket/arm... dont know if much ever happens from Skeg Engineering any more now that office boy Kris is not on the floor... LOL No rush mate. (bris thunder would be nice though - you better make plans for that race also).

Villain S1 with UL-1 motor on it.

Little heavy compared to some.

Super boat class, and it will be a real hoot to run against some electric tunnels.

Dave

Rough over view (intent) of the US GUYS (NAMBA I guess) from what I understand is:

Motors from RTR boats like the Blackjack26, Supervee 27, UL-1 hydro.

Controllers, any upto maybe 120amp (motors are not even rated that high)

Boats upto 34" long (as long as they fit in with the hull specs in our rules) (length is not an issue in Aus though).

EA power spec (4S) any batteries you want

thats about all the rules that matter...

To put it into perspective, you can get a:

Hull (Vision 20)

OS Lower unit

UL-1 Motor and controller

Servo

2 X 4S Packs

Linkages and stuff

Li-Po charger (if you have not got one already)

all for around $1200mark, Cheaper if you want to use the turnigy 120 amp speedy and also a VS-1

Thanks Kris, that is great info, just wanted to make sure I was on the right path.

Other than the UL-1 controller any other ones you recommend, especially if you want to "play" when not in P Spec mode ?

There are some great things about the P spec concept.

  • 1.a lot of the existing 3.5cc O/B hulls and legs work with it really well. So it's an inexpensive and easy way for people with spare 3.5 O/B parts to take the leap into FE
  • 2. By using the relatively cheap / conservative motors, there is no need to buy the super expensive ESC's, batteries etc.
  • 3. The likelyhood of failures is less, because the equipment is not pushed to it's limits.
  • 4. The speeds are comparable to 3.5cc O/B speeds, and the racing is close.
