Ok Kelly, tell us how you captured national champ in electric scale with the R/C Marine Designs Bud/ Elam hull at the NAMBA Nats.

How was the competition? How many boats were in the class?

I think we started out with 10 boats showing out of the 14 that signed up. I don't think I was the fastest on the water but, I had the most reliable boat on the water. Alot of them had problems and I didn't. I GPS'd the last run at 52.3 mph and everything was low on temp which means I could throw more prop on if I needed to.

1st heat I nailed the start perfectly and walked away from the guys. one person blew gears at the start another let off too much and couldn't get the boat back up on plane and another melted the leads off the batts.

2nd heat I nailed the start again but, didn't get the lead so I was chasing paul who had speed on me but, thermaled and shut down after about 3 laps so I was able to take the spot.

3rd heat I started late and it took me a lap to get by some slower traffic and I was after Roger Newton who nailed the start. I am not sure if I would of caught him or not but, something happened to his boat and it died on turn 3 in a bad spot. I kinda came to a stop to go around him.. a win is not worth taking out someones boat so I took it easy because I knew all I needed was to finish to place.

the boat was on rails all day even in the high gusting winds that we had. Roger gave me some advise on strut depth which helped out alot.. Al and Dave also gave me a hand with that.

Kelly,

Can you give us a battery break down, is it a Lipoly class, yes/no?

thanks

Steve

So, in your opinion, what is the future of this class...LiPoly or NIMH or both?

thanks,

Steve

I would say both.. I didn't crank on my lipos at all.. the boat has alot more in it then I was willing to push at the time but, both are competitive still. Now if I get some bigger packs for it say around 10000 mah and a 12 C rating nothing on nimh will have a chance

10,000mah with a 12C rating and the packs will cost more than the rest of the boat?

LOL

thanks

Steve

Good job finishing the heats. Nice to see the boaters helping you get a better setup too.

what motor and #cells did you use?

what prop did you run? X460 x457/3 x460/3 pushes the nitro boat pretty well.

I used Tanic Lipos and a Lehner 2280/10. Prop was kinda small 447/3 blade but, at just over 26000 rpm she worked. It was the first run on the boat so I had 2 laps of test time.. Phil I am just glad your instructions on the setup are so clear

Ok next stepup in props could be 646/3 450/3 452/3 455/3 If you can put out that rpm with the larger props you will be over 60 easily.

ya I was thinking a 450/3 or a cupped up version of one.. I have no problem getting out on plane.. the boat rockets out of the water.

I got to thank Paul Pachmayer also.. called him a ton when building this boat..
