I need to do some serious bending on a BeCu ABC prop and need to know how to soften the prop to prevent it from breaking etc.

Can somebody please give me the info for making it soft and then (after bending) re - hardening it.

Any help would be great ;)

Hey who was that masked man ???

He,He,

Tim I have added some cup my hammerin the blade over a large ball bearing in a vise with a brass hammer, no problems, just work it slow and even......

Gene ;D

Hey Gene / slide / masked marvel,

I bought a H49 and the thing is badly off balance in the hub. I really like the blade shape and pitch on that prop but I have taken so much out of the hub to try and balance it that it will probably explode > :(

I was thinking of making a duplicator off the H49 and banging a H32 to the same blade spec as the 49. The softer I can get the 32 the easier it will be!

Hey just thought about a article on heat treating I saw at Jims R/C, I will go there and see if i can find it...........

Back in a few,

Gene ;D

Heres a heat treating and softening method that Terry Keeley explained to me:

snip"Heat them with a torch in a dark room so you can see the colour, try to heat evenly to a dull red then quench in water. It's now soft so a good time to bend on etc. Then put in kitchen oven as high as it will go 6+ hrs or overnight, turn off and let cool slow, you'll never bend another" snip

Tim, what Tony said sounds close to what I read also, Take the cup out from 4.7 to around 5.7 and ya outta be close.

Got a post up at Jims about the heat treat, but so far no one has responded.

Read one hot tip on the H-31, texas cut the blades and cup out to around 6.2

Gene,

was that for the H49 or 32? on my other H32 I was running 6.1 cup and pulling it easily - in fact it was running over the top of the pipe and I don't want to shorten the pipe for mechanical limitation reasons (EAGLE SG with the centre ski = big pitch props!)

Gene,

What sort of boat does the mod H-31 you describe suit? I used to use one on my A100 powered mono, was not very fast but great to drive.

Tim,

What about a cut down cupped 1667?

Ian.

Ian,

I don't own one (yet) But I'm thinking of reducing the diameter of a 1967 that I have collecting dust -Anyone want to trade???

Tim.

Well let me see....

I want a 1667, I have all sorts of stuff...... What are you in need of?

Tim.

Tim,

I dont have a 1667, but I do have a 67x114. These are less than 67mm in dia and should already have a bit more pitch.

The 1967 sounds interesting. What else do you have that might be useful to me... ;D

Ian.

Tim,

I would not have a clue, it is not enough prop for the 90 and I have never run it! It looks just like a H-50 but less pitch. Dale has a couple, see what he says about them....

Ian.

Tim, I was talkin about the H-32 from 4.7 out to 5.7,

Ian, I have that mod listed as .80/.90 Hydro,

Got one answer from Jim,s on the heat treating for a hardness like Stainless, 600 degree oven for 45 minutes after final shaping.

Gene ;D

Thanks Gene,

"You the man!"

I've got 2 H32's to play with so I will give it a try.

Tim.

H31 is an awesome low lift prop for a 90 rigger.

The roadrunner ultralight 90 boat really likes this prop with either a K90 or CMB 90/1.0....

5.8 to 6.5" of cup is also a big plus with it ;)
