single stage acrylic enamel paint OK?

When you consider that laquer eats enamel for breakfast, I'd be willing to bet that it's going to need a clear over the enamel to make it hold up.

Not to ruffle any feathers, Jeff, but if you can add hardener, it's not a single stage as far as I know
 
actually, it is a single stage (hardner, reducer and paint), just doesnt require a clear coat. clear coat would be the second stage.

I would use a base coat clear coat system.PPG 2021 clear is fuel proof.

Looks like you are right. I remember being told Imron was urethane, however ....

what are you painting? Why the use of the enamel? Dude, we shoudl just wait for MissH to come in here and give us the official answer.
 
I've heard from numerous sources that Imron also requires special safety equipment and, to shorten drying time, an oven to get the best finish. That is the reason it's not used by many body shops any more, most changing over to PPG or equivalent
