On behalf of the VMBC, officers and its members, it is with the heaviest of hearts that this year’s event (2024) is cancelled. The bottom line is that the dredging taking place by the Parish to deepen the retention pond will not be completed in time. This is a double edge sword of course, as it has been needing to be done for many years, this will bring greater flood protection to the surrounding areas, and will provide the club with a much, much better lake to continue to race on. It will go from around a 3-foot depth to 12-15 feet when completed. The new completion date is right around our actual race dates, and we will not be able to provide the quality of racing that will take place, even if completed by then. This decision did not come lightly, the entire officers board, and several members were involved in this disappointing decision. Our facility will be even better than it has ever been and for that, we are grateful to the Parish of Saint John the Baptist! We did not want to continue to hold on to the hope of ‘maybe it will be ready” especially with race registration coming up August 17th…. that would not be fair to anyone. Our club has overcome many possible race ending events over the years, hurricanes, tornados, aquatic grass, etc, etc…but we can’t overcome not having water (see pics)! Please accept our sincerest apologies for this development but stay steadfast that VMBC facility will be better than it has ever been, and we hope to see everyone back in 2025!
With this having to transpire, we have a bid in with the IMPBA BOD to host THE IMPBA GAS NATIONALS in 2025 in May 15-17 (tentative) to break in our new, surveyed racecourse! Stay tuned everyone, for those that know how VMBC does things…. our facility will be bigger, better, and faster than ever!
Regards,
Nick Hartdegen
