i just bought the vs1 tunnel hull.i cut the motor mount template out and put it on back of hull like it is suspose to be.when i mounted the motor (o.s.21xm)to the back of the hull.i checked the height to center of shaft and it is low as it can go at(7/16inch).what can be done to fix this to get it lower.the mounting plate is as far down as it can go.if i redrill it will be into the bottom of the hull.

William,

An easy fix :)

That's all you need to do is pull the hinge pin and turn the mounting bracket 180*. Just flip it up side down, and you're good to go. DO NOT put any other mounts on it. You'll ruin the way the boat works.

1st take off the motor, than remove the 2 hex head screws to remove the steering bracket. Next there will be 2 Philips head screws, one on top, one on the bottom, you'll need 2 screwdrivers for this. Carefully remove the 2 screws and flip the bracket over and put it all back together and you're all set.

Easy as that :)

You have a great boat and motor there. I have 4 Villains and just built a VS-1 OS combo for a buddy last week.

Enjoy it!!

I think by flipping the mount over you're going to find that motor then will be to low with not enough room to go up. From everything I've seen the hinge bracket is on top the way the templet shows.

John,

You're right, the VS-1 I did also had the bracket on that way, but I didn't have this issue either.

William,

Disregard the previous post. I just went and got the VS-1 Template I have. It looks like the boat is drilled correctly. Phew, ha... :)

How about this idea, did you set the trim angle 1st? A good angle for the boat to start would be 2.3* -2.5* negative or down when your set up board is at 0*

Looking again at your pic, it looks like you have positive trim. not negative. That will lower the prop shaft for you.

walt when i put neg angle in the motor will it bring it down low enough? it has to go atleast 1/4 of a inch lower

guys thanks for the help.i feel kinda stupid now that i know a angle change will lower it.

I would start off with -0.5 degree measuring on the cav plate compared to the ride pide of the sponson (the last 10 inches or so), what Walt was suggesting sounds like a LOT of negative to me. I dont think I have ever run over 1 - 1.5 degrees of negative on any boat. Once you get the angle set, raise or lower the engine until the bottom of the bullet casting (top of the skeg) is about .200" high. Put a good prop on it, set you balance point with a little weight if needed and fine tune from there.

These boats are pretty easy to set-up, try not to make it harder than it should be.

Its pretty easy, I recommend getting a digital angle finder from sears, they are cheap now. It will be your best friend. You will never be able to eyeball a half degree change, so its best to have the right tool.

The above set-up that I gave is what I have run on my villians for years, and they can hold their own on the pond.

Good luck,

~James
