James,I would start off with -0.5 degree measuring on the cav plate compared to the ride pide of the sponson (the last 10 inches or so), what Walt was suggesting sounds like a LOT of negative to me. I dont think I have ever run over 1 - 1.5 degrees of negative on any boat. Once you get the angle set, raise or lower the engine until the bottom of the bullet casting (top of the skeg) is about .200" high. Put a good prop on it, set you balance point with a little weight if needed and fine tune from there.
These boats are pretty easy to set-up, try not to make it harder than it should be.

I've been running 2.3* for heat racing. Any less and it's too flighty. Maybe you need more motor
