Hey Mike,

I really like the granite bottom in your engine compartment. However, I think there might be a problem with weight. ;D ;D ;D

Don,

Thats a trick new wood treatment, it lightens the wood and gives that polished granite look.

Tom,

I found that if I start with a table saw and rip some long pieces I get nice square clean cuts. If I cut one of those strips into bulk heads they are all perfect width. Then add the curves with a dremel scroll saw or 1" delta belt sander.

i noticed that the sirio .12 "outlaw" version only takes turbo plugs.... ouch on the wallet. but they are supposed to make a lil more power than standard. i guess with lower nitro and displacement, the plugs probably will last anyway. which one did you decide to go with mike?

that's "formica-type" laminate you've got for the bottom of the tub, no?

I got one of those foam cutting hot wire thingys and it's really fun to use, I can't seem to find enough foam things to make.

I really cut some weight from the HH .12 by removing the top 3 fins from the head. It looks kind of ugly but lost some major weight and have had no cooling problems. I did it to a head that I got on eBay. I also took the case off of the reciever, wrapped it in foam then a baby bottle liner to waterproof it. The cases are heavier than they look! I still have to take those pieces to work to see how much I knocked off.

Good ideas Ron, thanks. I have the boat at the weight I want to keep it at, but I still have to add the flex shaft, drive dog and prop.

I was kicking around the idea of getting rid of the brass stuffing tube and using just teflon liner with a small brass tube at the prop shaft.

Keep the brass tubing, you'll be glad that you did. Without the brass, the flex cable would whip a lot and when that happens, things get ugly quick!

Cool, I think I could round up some of that locally. It doesn't sound like much weight but getting in the under 2 pound club isn't easy.

From what I have seen, the aluminum tube is not only lighter, but it is cheeper as well! kind of a win-win thing! the only question is "will it hold up?" ???

Mike, I think the tube helps shape the teflon and keep it round for less friction. Do you plan to use a strut on the transom?

Don

OK, I wieghed the parts at work tonight and didn't lose as much as I would have thought. The reciever case, a JR NER-102 was 16.643 grams and the heat sink portion that I removed was only a little over 11 grams so I only saved about 1 ounce after the trimming. It sure felt like more so I'm going to recheck it.

Ron,

I got all excited tonight when I was able to save 7g changing the throttle servo, I would kill for an once. Looks like ya just take off the case and heat shrink it.

Don,

No strut, straight out the back 2 " @ 0deg.
