Is that the new "hot rod" .12? You're really raising the bar for us in the A class this year. Carbon boat, carbon pipes, and hot rod motors? Can't wait till ice out! B)

I still have to get it running right! And have to see how it goes as Saturdays are not good days for me as I work out of town and get home late Friday and wife got a job working tues.-sat... The 3 kids hate that I'm never home in the summer, but I have to get my boat fix!!!

I'll just keep bugging Larry till it runs right!!!

By the way Greg,,,, I love carbon Fiber:) I'm at 1.6 pounds without cowl, servos, flex, prop, and painted sponsons. All else is accounted for. Hoping to be under or at 2 lbs...

Kevin,

I hope you can teach us a few things about how to use carbon fiber! I can't wait to see you boat in person at the pond this summer.

I had one thought for you. The ski on the boat appears to be curved rather than straight. You may have problems with the coanda effect acting on the ski. Both air and water moving past a curved surface can draw it down toward the water. In other words, it might stick to the water and be hard to launch, etc. Take a look at this utube video showing how this happens with a curved teaspoon. I know the guys that designed the JAE boats learned about this the hard way so they made their skis straight.

Thanks Bob for your words! I doubt I will be able to teach you much about carbon but will gladly show it off!! I hope to start messing with fiberglass and carbon fiber on my next winter off season and maybe make my own 45 boat:)

I'm aware of the effect but hopefully she will get up and go. I figured I would give it a shot before tossing it in the garbage!! If not I will try a flat piece of carbon to the back and if time allows durring the season I will make a new ski along with some more sponsons at different AOAs to try out.

Just hope to make it to the races as Saturdays are not good for me.. But I will see what I can do!!! But I will probably be out at Ricks testing away until then!!!

I went up to the big sink and just tested this out..... :( It has the effect more then I would like... Just may have to start building that ski soon.... Kinda funny how that works out. When I would push it past what the water would hold it,,, it would bow the water out wider then the ski but still flow down the ski not off or down the sides...

I think I should go to bed... Just a bit late to do anymore measuring...

All that's missing is the push rods, fuel line, painted sponsons, cowl and motor mounts. Need to find a weight loss program or I may push my 2 lbs goal:(

Bad news..... Forgot my good glow igniter at home and my back up was dang near dead... I was however able to heat cycle a tank through as the little nova is super tight. I had to use a heat gun just to get it to turn over:)

Maybe next weekend or a rain day this week and I will get her on the water!!!!

Well tonight it got worse.... I was able to run a tank heat cycling the motor at home. Felt good about theneedle and figured I could get it going on the water..... Then I go to my secret testing location and cannot get the damn thing to turn over but 1 time. That was with the plug on the last thread...

Not sure if my belt soaked up oil or what. Was a big temp difference so that may have played a role also... Get so excited to play toy boats with the limited time I have and cannot get the darn things running on the water... But hey atleast I have 2 more gallons of fuel coming to add to my other 7 I already have....

Dont be discouraged, I ran my .12 today at a race.... first heat boat ran great but after race boat dies ..... i get boat back check plug and took out the element.... figure i will go 3 clicks richer.... boat wont launch and dies on launch.... lean it back out 2 clicks and boat runs great again. The .12 boat has got to be one of the toughest boats to run, they are very temperamental. My .12 if im not blowing fuel out the exhaust on the stand i am probably to lean. always start with very conservative pipe lengths and props... will be easier to get the boat up and running and then look for speed after you got it running.

Paul

ohhh 9 gallons of fuel for a .12 would last me a few years

Get a O.S .46 AX remote needle. That is what I use. They are great with the NOVAROSSI .12 5port. They tune really easy.

Here is the link at Tower. http://www3.towerhob...?&I=LXGCV3&P=ML I screwed mine to the outside of the tub through the little holes in the needle housing so it doesn't flop around. I also drilled a 5/16" hole in the side of the tub for the line from the tank to go through. You can see the needle sticking up right in front of the exhaust manifold.

Good Luck with this rigger Kevin. When you get it dailed in, you're gonna love it.

Talked with Larry tonight and I might have to try a bigger belt till I get it loosened up a bit, If itwill fit. Then I will play the needle game!!! Hopefully tomorrow I can get some better results! Thanks for all the input guys:)

Kevin,

Do you use a Boris flow box?

If not you should buy one, it will help you with tuning all your motors.

Check your PM messages.

.12's are hard to get running. I don't run them anymore but I did for many years,,, before most people ran them,.. a couple things on a new /12

- run it HOT,.. no water for break in.. maybe 5-7 tanks.. running blubber rich where it will harldy get on the pipe at all. Then restrict the water to at least to about a 0.050 hole in the head.

-start small on the prop and creep up on it..

-run as much nitro as you can get

-Start your pipe long and creep up on that too,.

Change one thing at at time and run 3-4 laps, then adjust..

You have a really nice boat.. It will be so very rewarding when it hit's that pipe and starts to sing.. The .12 riggers are very fast and can be run in smaller ponds.. But they really can be a challenge to get set up..
