Grim, I was checking out the Estes holiday sale and noticed the new E2X line of Pro-Series. Just wondering how they are holding up ? and how well they fly ?? The plastic fins would be my concern. Also whats the deal on that new "booster" 1000 extra ft !!!

Andy,

I have flown them all.. No issues on the fins..

I have flown the booster 3 times.. (its a tick scary). There has to be NO WIND.. 1/4 mile walks to recover if there is...

The Ascender is my favorite.

The E16 has a nice kick to it.. the F15 is a tick softer...

I have never seen the flutter by fly... (I made a rhyme)

The CIA had a great day of flying last weekend with VERY light winds and great temps in the low 80s.

Pad setup started at 12 noon with a BUNCH of scouts showing up to fly from the work shop we had earlier in the week. Flight after flight of scouts and they all had a great time flying there Alpha rockets.

The club also has a NAR contest scheduled for the day. Events were:

A Super Roc Altitude Altimeter (CM length [150max] time’s altitude in meters)

Streamer Duration (Longest time aloft totaling two flights)

Predicted Altitude Altimeter (record a predicted altitude and fly as close to that as possible)

My Super Roc and Streamer Duration rockets were scratch build and my predicted Altitude an Estes Nova pay-loader rocket I have had for over 15 years.

I started with my Predicted Altitude rocket. I was using a Altimeter One and B6-6 engine. Testing the weeks before gave me a 116m (about 382’) I set my altitude as 116 and flew to 114 missing my target altitude by 2m (6’). This gave me the win in the class. (NOTE: On the day of the contest the rocket cannot be flown before the start of the contest.

Next was Streamer Duration. I loaded an A8-5 into the rocket and set the piston. I then loaded it into my launch tower. The rocket popped hard off the piston and the streamer un-furled right at apogee. I touched a small amount of lift and the rocket recorded a time of 45.7 seconds. I prepped for flight two and lost the engine at apogee giving me a DQ for the flight. My total for the event was 45.7 Seconds which was only good enough for 2nd place as Chris Deem pulled ahead with a 70+ second combined set of times.

Last was Super Roc. My rocket was based on 13mm tubing and built to the full 150cm length. I flew the rocket on an A3-4T to an altitude of 72M (Using an Altimeter One) or (237’) giving me the win. Chris Deem took second with just over 50M.

Sport flying for me consisted of my Leviathan on a F24-4, Arcas on a G76-10 adjusted to 8 seconds. My Estes Trajector flow 3 times back to back on 29mm E16-4s (625’-613’ and 610’) all using Estes Altimeters.

We wrapped up about 730PM and headed out for Pizza. All in all a great day of flying

Okay guys- flame suit on -

Im just gonna ask to ask- I have some 24mm motors I want to short field fly a 29mm rocket on -
How to make an adapter ? My inexperienced mind makes me want to take a spent 29mm Single use Estes motor and chop the front end off- cram the 24 inside and create some form of cap to screw on the forward end.

Would it work ???

Modified the E-Launch pad to do some local small field flying and still handle the larger stuff if the space allows .

A quick trip to the Depot provided 3 new 4ft rods- a 1/8- 3/16th and a 1/4, Should be able to handle about all I plan on using it for - the 1/8th rod required a bushing I soldiered into place to make it work in the 3/16 slot. I'm not real sure about the Argent on a G40 off that 4ft rod without the pad being staked at least

- but the 29mm 2.4 Mozzie on an F50-T6 ought to be cool

Haley! 008.jpgI maidened this one at the may TTRA launch along with 9 others..it didnt do so good....the classic end over end im outta control cause the idiot that built me should have done a BEETER job of checking me for STABLILTY tumble....no damage though.. thats why i build em with EPOXY! The tail cone is turned from a piece of aluminum bar stock...D12-5 for power.

Im building a coupla cluster jobs as ive never played with clustering before..one is an Estes Ranger look alike, 3/18mm motors of some sort, the other is also a scratch built that will use 2 "D" Motors...will post pics...im glad the IWMRC is still going strong!!!

Okay so here is a mock up of what I was thinking about for a 24mm to 29 mm adaptor. I would obviously cut the end unit on a ban saw for better fit. My concerns are-

1) is the slip fit on the forward end gonna be enough- its pretty tight ?

2) I may have to remove the nozzle to get the ignitor all the way out unless I use a different brand than Estes.

Comments/thoughts/suggestions - Will it work ???
