How messy are gas engines?

ok. I have a question. If I bought a 20cc partner weedeater for ~100€

Is it to much to spend on a weeder engine?

And most importent: would it be any good for a boat engine?

I can buy a Weedwacker new for less than Cad$100 at this time of the year (much cheaper if used). So I would say 100pounds is too much. I never have a weedwacker but I suspect there must be a flex cable inside. If there is one and the diameter is .250 then we can even use it in our boats.

As for whether the engine is any good for a boat, I have the same question. Those engines are air cooled. It might be necessary to fit a water cooled jacket.

100 Euro for a weed wacker engine is okay, but I'd rather spend the extra money and get something you know without doubt is going to stick with you and perform. Don't mean to sound like I'm putting your engine down, but for the money, you can't hardly beat these engines.

Just bought two of them for a hell of a price!

260 PUM !

If you want one, let me know.

Btw,

I had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of guys from Jim's & ExtremeRcboats.com (the boyz from the Netherlands) this summer.

SpeakerBoy has a fantastic looking red cat & the detail is flawless. I'm moving up myself. Just need to decide on what hull and save some of the allowence he wife gives me. :-[

jamie nice to see u here .. sold that ugly rad cat :) now i have a pretty orange one ..

so for how much do u let one engine go them ! ? ;D

DD,

YGM [on your email not PM]......if you're unsure of what hull, try a Supercat like me! it's much much easier to solve problems if two people are building the same hull at the same time, and im guessing we'd be using the same engine [G260]. especially when you get down to the fine tuning of what props are best, strut height, CG, etc.

I"m behind the power curve on this one. This new boat project will take a while... maybe five months for me to work the funds together due to it not being to high on the priority list. At least I have the engine. Dang, thatd be perfect to learn from each others setups to boot.

I know this is a can of worms, but..........I get so sick of reading things like "I hated thorwing a nitro boat in 10 times in a row only for it to die 10ft. from shore". As if this is a "nitro" problem. When is the last time you saw Andy Brown, Al Hobbs, Stu Barr, Marty Davis, .......etc......throw a nitro boat 10 times only to see it die in 10ft? The problem you describe is OPERTATOR ERROR.....I have seen many a bad boat modeler switch from "hard to run nitros" to gas only to have the same or worse problems, all because they just are not a good modeler.

LMAO ;D ;D ;D Sorry to say, but from time to time you have to chase them all. And gas just is tooooooooooo easy to run and throw in. guess the guys against nitro boats, never really got the needle settings down.

I like them both.

Thing i had to get used to was with gas was the power right away. Nitro motors need to WHINED OUT before power comes.

both are fun, BOTH you need to chase time to time.

eric .

since its my post where i wrote the thing u didnt agree with i will try to explain why i wrote that ..

here in the netherlands we have a very variating climate , that means than rain and sunshine , cold and heat , wet ore dry can follow up on each other within a few days .. we meet every sunday ore at least try 2 sundays a month ..

, every sunday we see the nitro guys adjusting their needles becouse its so diff weather than last sunday ... it takes some time to have a nitro engine run like u want .. therefore i told that i ve seen so many nitro running guys have their boat stalled .. i use to own a 6.5 cc webra engine ... RUNS ALWAYS ! but those cmb , k&b .. man its a pain in the **** ..

while we turn on the choke pull twice take of the choke .. and pull again ... and there. . .we have a good running engine ... i am not telling gas is better or cheaper fuel ore what ever .. i am just telling that a lot of nitro guys were scratching their head and were thinking "what the hell am i doing wrong " and " look at those guys .. its looks so easy .. ! "

and eric

u cant tell me that if more than 40 guys switched in one year to gas ore built a gas boat beside their nitro , that all those 40 guys dont know their engines. .. its just a fact that gas is muche easyer and performance diff is not that big any more. . as a matter of fact .. the fastest boat running our ponds are gas boats... till more than 60 mph ....

I have a MAC engine, that just starts and goes.

Never have had a problem with it stalling out on me.

Course it will not run lean, just will flame out.

You have chokes on your gas engines?

I Just finger untill wet and pull, and throw in.

Eric, chill man, just take it easy.

I agree with you that the experienced nitro boater is going to have no trouble going to gas and the guy who can't figure out nitro may not be the fastest gasser ether.

I would even go to say that a successful nitor boater could probably pick up a gas rig and make it go even better than the owner! But give a guy(who has never seen an rc boat) 2 boats, one nitro the other gas, which one do you think he will get going first?

Just to have something to play with gas is easier, to be competitive???? Same sport, different fuel.
