I have an old favorite that I have used for years, but I'm always willing to listen to some new ideas.

Thanks,

Mike B

I use "Lubriplate" No. 105 "Motor Assembly" Grease,,NAPA Part No.765-2651.

If you use just the "No. 105" you'll find there are many diff types of greases using

that number,,I went thru that snaffu already.

If it's good enough for the "start-up" on a new motor it's Ok for my cable and gears (Thunder Tiger),and inboards too. :)

i had some left over motor building grease and thats what i use too. squirt tube is real convenient and i've noticed that in my flex shafts for my kb even after its all squirted out the lower(gonna fill them holes sometime) the shaft is still feels well lubed.

I have used greases, Lubes, caliper lubes, But the 1 thing i always go back to and mix with whatever i use to lube is antiseize.

It dont sling off or wash off. Seems to stay on the cable for a long time.

My preference is Glenfiddich and water or Crown Royal and water preferably with a MonteCristo #1 sitting by the pond after a day of running toy boats. This generally keeps me well lubed .. TJ :)

White Lithuim spray grease and Blue trailer grease, works for me. In between heats I squirt a tranny fluid mixture I make into the reservoirs

The best results that a race mechanic for Honda's Motorcycle race team "HRC" (after spending more that $160 g's on experiments) was "Molly slip" mixed 50/50 with Silkolene full sythetic motor oil over a slow boil .For bike parts (clutch and brake cables, Chain, Bearings) i mix a 500ml of Molly with 500 ml of Silkolene. The usual ware for a motorbike chain if 5000klms, I can get easily 20,000 with minimal wear and stretch. Trust me; try it and you will swear by it. The Molly breaks down with heat and holds the synthetics closer to alloys closer that regular Sythetic.

I use Petrol Gel by McGlaughlin. This stuff is impervious to water and sticks to the shaft like flies stick to ****. It has a very high boiling point and the best of all, its food safe. In other words, its edible. So if you want to lick your shaft,   be my guest.  If u get really hungry, spread it on some toast, it tastes good.  I use the same stuff in my ice cream machines. I havent seen any kids with two heads yet, so it must be safe.  Nick

Prather shaft lube!!!!!!! hahahaha  No really I have been useing some WEST Marine boat grease....havent had any broke flex shafts yet!! Stays on the cable pretty long!

Mike

Mercury Marine 2-4-C, comes in nice tubes as well as the small cylinders for mini grease guns, put a grease "needle" on your gun and it works great for outboards.

This grease also has teflon in it, wear has not been an issue since I started using it over 3 years ago.

 if you lube it with anything each heat, it will work, if you don't help with the launch and just drop it in the water that puts a big strain on the cable and making sharp turns under load really loads a cable as well. never seen a boat with cable problems solved with a different lube. 2 cents, geno

:p forget my last post and refer to tonys, he has a much better way of handling a cable problem. :D geno

No problems to solve, I've been using the Merc lube for years with great results, I was just filling the gear foot on one of my old Merc outboards today, and I remembered that Andy Brown had suggested this same lube that I was using on the Merc, 102 lubriplate. Just curious what you guys were using.

Thanks,

Mike B

I us some teflon grease on my outboard and im using blue trailer greas on my mono. They both have worked very well. I have gone out for hours and played with out having to regrease. I have not tried anything else, just because this has worked.

I agree with Tony J a little RC on the rocks goes a long way for keeping me lubed.  Scott

That is for you high priced boaters LOL I like the BV & Coke drill myself!!! There is or was a past article by Marty that mixed some differant things and came up with some weird combo's that worked great.

That must be why Tony can't drive his Sport 40 on Sunday mornings, too much "lube" the night before!

I've tried all kinds of potions so far. The 50/50 mix of STP and 20w50, Prather and Hughey greases, white greases and whatever else I could find. We have some spray lube at work that I'd like to try. It's graphite based, stickier than a booger yet very slippery. From what it says on the can, it ought to be great for boat use.

Tom, which anti-sieze do you use? The copper or nickle based?
