WHAT? DID YOU SAY SOMETHING?? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

That's too funny! Talk about living in the dark ages! Power output went thru the roof once guys figured out why they are called "tuned pipes"! :p :p

It is funny to me that some guys want a muffler rule that does nothing but are against a DB rule that sets a limit. You can have a muffler that does nothing or a sound limit that allows you to do anything you want as long as you are under that limit.

I was all for the muffler rule as it allowed everybody to "get used to running mufflers" now that everyone is supposed to be used to it they want a 95 db limit for the first year before going to 92 db. Give them an inch and they take a mile.

Ron Olson, I aplolgise, you were right!

While I'm sticking my nose in, Don, I like water injection too, I know it does nothing in the pits, but if you inforce the noise limit in the pits as well as on the water, water injection can still be used, boaters will just have to moderate the use of thier trigger finger!

Hey Mike, I hear ya on the trigger finger! :D The down side to only water injection is nobody's even got close to 95dB with only water let alone 92. That's what I was really getting at. The pit noise is secondary, but still worth considering.

I beg your pardon sir. I have water at the stinger and it's well below the 92db level. .... Granted, it's on an MDd pipe with one of their mufflers on the end. Adding the water to the stinger is what got the pipe under the limit.

I know this is going to be the future. I don't understand what the issue is? What's so difficult about adding a device to reduce the noise level?

With the noise level being so high, is that what makes you think your going faster?

Awww, yur not playin' fair! Ya didn't say it was already a muffled pipe! LOL!! I have heard a few guys had had make water a second noise surpression on those M&D pipes. I've also heard they (M&D) are working ona new pipe that won't need water to get it under 92. What I meant was water injection as a primary on unmuffled pipes won't even get you close.

Duh! You'd think you were asking some of them to sacrifice thier first born....

You're going to have to speak louder, they can't hear you!!

Seriously, maybe that's it. We had a guy in our club a couple years back that was running an unmuffled QD in a mono, geez talk about head splitting noise! We talked him into putting the o.e. QD muffler on it & it was almost 4 mph FASTER ON RADAR! You know what his response was- "well it doesn't sound fast" Geez... <_< <_<

You've hit the nail on the head Don... AWESOME!!!

MDd is working on meeting the db limits before there's even a set limit in IMPBA. I also believe other pipe manufactures are following or are intending to follow suit.

Also, don't forget about carb noise. A hatch on the hull will also take down the db level a point or so.

Wayne there is something else you just touched on- hull noise! This includes induction noise. You guys out there with mono (vee) hulls take note. The shape of a mono hull actually will AMPLIFY noise due to it's shape. Stuffing the front with irregular shaped floatation really helps here, don't give the sound waves a flat surface to reflect off of. We tried something a while back with a set of "baffle strips" hanging down about 2" going from side to side forward of the engine & progessing towards the nose. Dropped 2db in noise level emitted from the boat. Wayne is right about the hatch, that's a BIG help too!! Plus it's a hell of alot easier to run in traffic when your engines are covered up!! :D
