I run both nitro and gas. Gas is easier, no question. It is also easier to get reliable. Nitro you can get just as relaible, but it takes a lot more experience to get there. I probably enjoy nitro a little more because it is more challenging, and I like the purity of purpose of full on 90 nitro motors! ;D
But if I think back my all time favourite race boat was a Zenoah G23 powered Kingcraft 46" mono. Very reliable (if I didn't push too hard too often!!) and very fast, at the time it was one of the best in the country! Good fun to race and drive.
Even as a die-hard nitro fan I still recommend to many people to start with gas simply because it is easier and the frustration level is lower. I think it is a bit silly that there is this rivalry. In our club we are all racers, the rivalry is pretty good humored. 8)
In the long term us nitro guys are in trouble tho. In our club probably about 80% of the new members we have had in the last few years have been gas runners. The gas classes are now the strongest in the club. :-
Hey Gene,
Mike Gilman might live in Australia but he still sounds like an American! Cant miss that accent over here!! He's a good bloke, and we dont hold that against him....
