Hey guys

Can it be said that something like the os.46/ops.45 whould equivalent to a .21 such as mac/nova/cmb/ops super in a .21 hull?

I'm considering building one of Brian's whiplash 20 and putting one of the .45 sport engine in it.

Of course i wont be racing it. It's just to mess around with. What do you guys recommend?

Please keep in mind that the pocket book is tight so I'm just trying to get the most for my money.

I say put a .21 in it, and it'll be plenty fast! The 45s weigh a bit more, require more fuel, and may not spin as high an RPM as a good .21... They will turn a larger prop though.

If you're on a budget, take a look at the for sale section here. There was recently a new OPS side exhaust .21 and a new K&B drum rotor .21 for sale, both at good prices. They'll make the Whiplash 20 scoot just fine, and will keep the boat well balanced. my 2¢

Ben:

I would also suggest that you get a .21 engine to put in it. In case you get "bit by the bug" you are set to race. There are many people who have engines that I am sure would be happy to sell to you. Also people could also supply you with a matching pipe.

The .45 engines are much heavier and would throw off the balance, etc.

Where are you located? Most times getting with a local club will get all your concerns addressed in a good manner.

i had a .45 ops in a old .21 youngblood hull and it was fun and very fast. my 2 cents.....................Scott

I'm located about 60 miles southwest of New Orleans. I don't have a LHS but there is one in New Orleans, unfortunately boat supplies and peolpe are limited.

I'm finishing up a FF.21 at the time so I'd probaly race that if anything.

The reason I'm considering putting an oversized engine is:

1. the .45 sport engines are cheaper

2. from what i've read they are easier to tune than a racing.21

3. parts are also cheaper

I guess the person to ask is Brian himself but; what do you guys think about how the overall performance of the boat?(speed, turning, tuning, etc.)

Ben,

How bout them Saints huh!!!!!

An OPS 45 or OS 46 are not "sport" engines. They can run with any engne out there with the proper prep.

The OPS 21 is a hot little motor ans is a good deal. Remember that the pipe comes with the motor. Take a look here for prices.

OPS 45 is a very good engine for the money .

If you want to build one of Brians boats why not build the sport 40 ?

You won't have to worry about trying to make everything fit and you will have a great boat when you are finished building.

I forgot to mention that the OPS 45 runs better with the OPS 67 pipe than with the OPS 45 pipe. If you get a OPS 45 ask for the 67 pipe to come with it.

The OPS 21 pipe is the one that a lot of other pipes are based on, and is very good for the OPS 21, if you go that route.

Hey guys

I gave Brian an email but no response yet. I'll take what he says into consideration.

I also thought about buying the sport 40 plans and scaling them down a bit but I've never

did this before and I'm not sure how things would work out.

I'm into the build project just as much as the running part so i'm up for the challenge.

Do yall have any experience scaling plans? I'd love to hear about it.

I probaly end up going with the ops .45, I just haven't decided on the boat yet.

In the end i want a really fast boat to show off.

if you want all out speed, go for an outrigger. Take a look at the FireFighter that Tom Moorhouse sells. Make it extra light and you'll have a fast boat.

I'm finishing up a ff.21 as we speak.

I'm looking just to build a different type of boat with huge power/speed.

Basically the guys running SAW are putting big engines in small boats. So that would mean a 45 in a 21 boat, or a 67 in a 45 boat, etc.

You might build two 21 boats and put a 45 in the other one!! LOL..
