Now for some more Good News, the cowl has been back from the fiberglass shop a few weeks and it looks awesome. Meanwhile I've been working on the Winston Eagle Lobster; foamed the inside of the sponsons and finished installing the top deck, and also built up and mounted the rear wing and side stabs along with the front canards and flaps, Will install the radio equipment and finish all the linkage and then cut up and fit the cowl to the hull.

Short on time and getting ready for the Gas National this coming week, and will post pics in following weeks. Planning on taking the Winston Eagle Lobster for a pre-view. Thanks You All and Happy Racing !!!!!!!!!!

Could not resist, have Good News, took the Winston Eagle Lobster Cowl Plug to fiberglass shop and had Robert take a look at it before I painted the cowl,

Good thing I did, he advise me not to put a smooth paint finish on the plug, all that's needed is two ( 3 layer coats ) of Evercoat DURA-BUILD Filler Primer with the first coats sanded down with #320 and the second coats with #400 sandpaper (dry). WOW !!!!!! This was a time saver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cowl Plug has been changed a bit since the Part 2 Post, with the scoop dropped down 5/8" and the canopy lower 1/4" making the look much better, have not had many comments to get a better handle (bad or good), so went with a lot of pics and videos, the best video was the 89 Winston Eagle Lobster Test Run on u-tube,and the most detailed video.

The "Good News", took the cowl plug back to the fiberglass shop yesterday and to my surprize, Robert said he would have it done by the weekend. I totally was not expecting this sense he is swamped with fiberglass race car orders. This was surely Good News to my ears !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Mike, so far it looks' like I'll have the first unit for this week end, It was a big challenge making the plug with a little more detail than most other cowl, but well worth it, making it easy for the cut out of the windshield / scoop opening / rear vents / and rear turbine pipe opening. Also made the line for a operating hatch for drivers interior detail, of course for those who want to go that far (not me I just want to race the Lobster).

This is my favorite Unlimited Hydro, and hope to see a few more in coming years. The boat design itself has had some bad reviews (both the real one and the scale), and the scale version has ran with some success in both 1/8 and Gas Scale, For that reason this has become my next challenge, get the Gas Scale Lobster to run fast in heat racing conditions without blowing over or slowing down in the turns. Have made some changes to keep it on the water, but the proof is in the putting and time will only tell????

As for the availability on the Cowl, I'm not interested on, or even getting involved in supplying them, but will furnish information later on where to acquire a cowl unit. My Challenge and take on all this was to make a cowl available for the Winston Eagle Lobster boat kit from ML Boat Work that has the same quality and detail as the kit.

The Cowl will be available !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Get Ready" and lets go racing, paddle to the metal (oh no!! that's Wood). Happy Racing !!!!!!

John,

I think you have made an excellent cowl but there is a "but". Compared to the cowl I got from Phil Thomas and the pictures I have of the 89-90 Lobster Boat the windshield is a tad but stubby?? May be just angle of photo but the video I have the boat testing the cowl is stretched out a little more.. I

m not criticizing in any way just want to let you know about these differences I have not seen the boat that Larry Lauterbach drove to third place I believe it was in San Diego in 92or3??

Later!

Pat

Happy for your comment Patrick, If you study the real Unlimited ( not the R/C Cowls ), you will find, that it has what I call a spoon shape canopy ( roof ) created by the shape of the windshield frame and it's length. I have a P T gas cowl and believe, that canopy came from another cowl like an jet airplane or something like that or maybe even from another boat cowl ( would like to know ). It's hard to make a canopy shape and can see one using something that's available, Also the canopy is much shorter from in my view, which is a plus, for this will help with the engine application that is required, front carb rear exhaust engines. My-self I will use side pods, that I will call Side Ram Air Vents Intakes and will be using side carb / side exhaust 30cc engine that will need a special header made-up ( pods will be available as an option ). Don't like using the four bearing motors. The side pods may not be legal and clubs may not let it run it in gas scale, and that's OK, my interest is, I love Lobster design and want to make it go fast, I'll just run with the riggers.

The real Unlimited SCOOP AND COWL changed a bit, from the first prototype till the last time it ran, so I took the best of all that I could find for our R/C Application.

Thanks for your comment Patrick, this is what help the hobby grow, Happy Racing !!!!!!!!!!!!

John that is a great looking plug. I will be proud to race with it and you in the budding district 4 gas scale class. I am thinking before this season is over there will be 4 boats in district 4, so there's a start.
