Normally, anything over 100 octane is aviation fuel.  You should be able to purchase it at any local airport though you might have to jump through a few hoops.  Since avgas is leaded(last I knew anyway), some airports don't like to sell it to anyone with a gas can as they suspect it may go into a car, something that is technically illegal, especially for any car that was equipped with a catalytic converter

Check out VP Racing T2 Tested – Pre-Mixed 2-Stroke Race Fuel its available  as premix or non mixed straight gas to add your own oil blend

We ran this stuff in our 2 stroke road race engines at 10/15%  with a 50/50  synthetic/ castor oil blend @ 13 to  15000 rpm with no issues

available thru most motorcycle shops or the manufacture.  https://vpracingfuels.com/product/t2/

It is spend y approx $27.00 a gal

and U don't have to deal with the airport fuel guy

Tom, were do you buy that?  Since I'm only an hour or so from you, it can't be that far for me to drive.

BTW, I spend $30+ per gallon for 50% nitro fuel so $27 isn't that bad

I use to order it online or from Cycle Barn now in Smokey Point (+10% mark up and the Gov's tax ) but that as 15+ years ago when they were in Lynnwood  near Lynnwood HD shop @ 188 SWst  & Ole 99

when i get ready I'm going to try the Concrete airport. I think since its a small air port in might be self-serve

You sound like me, I'll be checking out Arlington Airport.  I figure, if they say no, I'll give the Barn a call since Smokey Point is only 6 miles away.

Thanks

I don't think we have Jackson Oil Co in Washington, unless that's the Jackson's Shell chain and I know they don't have higher than 91 octane

Go to the airport and you can get it up to 120 octane. Ran 120 octane in the go carts back in the days.

The CMB aluminum pipe is the best pipe for this motor.  Hot Pipes work very well, but I found not very durable.  I tried one of the new steel muffled pipes from CMB and it seemed to run well but, it was very heavy
Thanks for all your info Stu.

What is the advantage of the steel tuned pipe over the aluminum, if there is any?

Yes latest Version and Carb

I have yet to finish this build so have no other info on the latest Version CMB 27 EVO other then what Stu gave me during the purchase on how to set up the drive line so as not to apply a thrust load to the crank bearing's,  and a starting length of the tuned pipe and needle valve settings for the tillotson Carb.  which BTW is huge (18mm venture) compared to the wilbro carb on the RCMK or Zenoah's 13 mm ventures

Sure if you call Stu he can answer any ?? U might have

Here is how I set up the strut and  prop shaft 1/4 Square drive to 1/4 prop shaft thrust bearing between prop and drive dog (have to finish cutting Prop shaft to length). Round 1/4 collet on he engine end

Hi Tom:

Did I notice there are brass pressure fittings on the rear-plate (below carb) of the latest Alpha EVO-2 (image from a web-site below) ?  Are you guys using pipe or crankcase pressure?  Also are folks using remote needle valves? Thanks

The fitting's at the lower back plate are  cooling water lines !?  ,( Stu says he doesn't use them on the rigger boats) the carb is a pulse base pressured  pumper carb, carb has both  low & hi speed needles,  don't know about 3rd ch needle  do not see any need for it.

Then out to my machine shop to design and make an aluminum engine mount
this is a beautiful scale hydro model, and large in size. I'm very intrigued what kinds of speeds the Alpha EVO-2 will push this boat.

That makes two of us.  I'm presently building a 1978 Miss Madison and am using the same engine.  It will be interesting to see what  it will do as well
