Why .15s in .12s

I'd like to know how the carbs work out Ron. You know, half the fun of this hobby is just staring at the boat and thinking about ways to make it better. Ya, you can always go for a 300.00+ NovaRossi but I really don't think this fits the whole idea of this class of boats unless of course you're going for records. In that case, anything goes and more power to you! B)

Just a comment. A hear a lot of people categorizing riggers as 3/point or 5/point hydros. That's new to me! They all run on 3/points at speed, two trailing edges and one blade of the prop unless of course your rears are just set too low. In that case I'd call it a cat.

Just my personal thoughts,

Don :)

P.S. Well, I guess I'm wrong about the NovaRossi price. Just looked at tower and the most expensive one is only about 230.00. By the way, does anyone know which one Glenn Q is using?

maybe a little bit off-topic...

at the moment I am using a OS 15 CV-R in my little hydroplane (this engine replaced an older .15 CZ-M engine) B) and I am very satisfied with the new engine. But I just got a super cheap brand new .18 CV-R (I love ebay :p ), I will convert it to watercooling soon and test it then

Don, I ran the boats yesterday with the new carbs on them. With no other changes on the Wild Thing .12, the boat gained a good 5 MPH using the Trinity/Picco. Now I might be albe to put a larger prop on it. The HH.12 was another story. It's still acting up yet, no fault of the carb. I'll have some time off next weekend to do some more testing.

Nice boat Saugling! How does she turn with the fin in that position? I had an Octura Wing Ding 60 for my first boat years ago and the turn fin was clear up against the side of the hull. It turned OK but probably wasn't fast enough to make any difference. Sounds like you're having a ball!

Ron: Sounds good with the carbs. My OS 10M rotary carb is restricted also. Might have to try a different one. Is the Hammer Head acting up or the engine?

Don

Yeah, it's that Fantom I think just doesn't like water. I've been swapping the motors between 3 boats to see what happens. I am dialing them in in one boat then putting it in another to see what happens. I was hoping for better from the Fantom's but they aren't coming around. They are screamers in trucks but no luck with them yet in boats but I'm still tweaking. It's too bad because they do offer the motors in about any configuration that anyone needs, pull start or not, rotary or slide carb, standard or SG shafts, side or rear exhaust and boost bottles with the non-pull start side exhaust motors.

Has anybody built a boat around a 21 car engine yet. Kinda sounds like a fun idea.
The O.S .21 RZ-M was originally a car engine!

Also, there are a few folks over here that use the VZ-M.

My buddy put a .26 four cycle in one of my HH.12 kits. It runs just fine. Sounds really cool. Just for fun sometimes is just what is says! "FUN"

Hello Hammer!

It's always great to hear from you. How are your latest boats doing and what have you got up your sleeve?

Don ;)

Just so you guys know, I just got a OS .18 for a TMAXX and its got lots of torque.

I had a CVRX .15 and blew so just replaced it witht he .18 CVRX and breaking in, there seems to be alot of torque, about 28k makes about 1.35 hp.

am thinking it would be a good little rigger motor, got the torque for a bigger prop, and can spin it, seems the engine like to wind out.

I've got my Fantom engine running well now. After break-in the lowend needle was way to far out. Flooded everytime I brought it in. Runs well now. Don't think it's really that fast though. Could be my set up,.. I think the edges of my sponsons got to round with paint. I also need to run different props. I seem to be either with a too small prop or a too large prop....

which prop are you using? Ron O has used both the 215, & the v937/3. I ran a 215 for 1 1/2 runs (then it fell in the drink  ) but it ran very well. It was quite fast even though I was running very rich (breaking in the motor)

I've got a 1440 that I can't really get up to speed, and x637 that I can't maintain any speed with and a x435 that revs up and runs but it's too small I think...

What do you think?

I think you are right! :p Most are running a 215 or a V937/3 and you are hitting arround those two with what you have tried.

Get a 215. I assure you that you will be able to run your boat. That is the most important thing for starters. Get it set up and trimmed out with a prop that you know will push it, then start dinking around with others. V937s cavitate too much to get a boat on a plane that has yet to be trimmed out properly. They are also very thin and their characteristics change just from a running them.

If you get it going good with a 215, then try a 1637. They haul @$$!
