First boat was a plastic 3.5 Outboard tunnel(no pics) before cameras were invented, Second was the Dumas AVL-you have seen the pics of that Andy-still have it built around 1983. What year were you born Andy??? May be older than you!!!

What is it about Dumas kits? I started back in 1982 with a Dumas 30" Pay N'Pak kit. Was powered by an HB .20 with a two channel Futaba radio on the old Blue/White band. Never could get the boat up on plane, not sure if it was due to the boats excessive weight or the HB's 17K top end and Dumas running gear. Being in the Navy and in training, the only tools I had to work with were a set of Exacto knives, a hand crank drill and sanding blocks. If I can find the pictures I took back in 1983, I'll try to post one or two later. Followed that with a Dumas Blue Blaster in 1986. Again, a heavy slug of a boat. After having Troy McIntyre go over the boat telling me what I did wrong, I moved on to boats from Newton plans and didn't look at a kit boat again untill 2008, buying a Whiplash Sport 40 kit and (dare I say this) a Dumas Circus kit.

I can't find any pics but my first was 1987, 30" Dumas Pak. My first Captain America. K&b 40 aircraft engine. I believe a Kraft radio. Tuperware radio box. Built in Gale54's grandfathers basement.

MadDog, You've come a long way since August.

Guess I went back TOO far.

First place speed southeast, 1970 Pinewood Derby.

Don't have pic of boat, hand built tunnel made of balsa covered with dope (huff n stuff :D ) .049 cox with pusher prop, no radio, just a rudder bent for wide circle, circa '72.

Tunnel was a MRP Mach 1 abs plastic, traded my RC10 for a 3.5 and a Attack 2 channel. 1988 Went to the pond with Gene, and a week later bought a Trophy Tunnel. Joined Brandon club.

My first was an old crapshooter with an OPS 40. Loved that boat till the bearings on the hard shaft went bad. Moved on the a 90 RR. Ryon Shaw

No pic my first boat was Dumas Hot shot orange. k/b with exhaust slide throttle. Dam thing stuck all the time My father in law got me started and my now ex wife hated boats from the start...... Our fall race is named for my ex father in law a fun guy to race with.

My first boat was a .45 Sightler hull that I decided to put a Picco .67 in. Sent the motor to Ackerman and forgot to tell him it was for a mono. Talk about a light switch. The boat was off the water more than on. It was a freak'n nightmare to say the least. Broke the throttle linkage coming to shore and destroyed the nose of the boat. Totally fixed the four color (plus clear) paint job and took it for another ride. Lost the radio coming around bouy six and stuck it into the bank at full bore. I'll never forget this part... Just as the boat hit the bank, my wife showed up to see how I was making out. As she came around the corner of the lake, I walked down to the bank, picked up the boat and met her at the top of the hill. Here's the funny part... I dropped the boat down on the grass and jumped on it 3 or 4 times. She asked me what the heck I was doing and I told her the boat was never meant to be. I was as cool as cool could be but had had enough of the POS. Almost got out of the hobby before I got started. Second boat was a used rigger that had more issues than the sightler. I swore from that point on I'd buy nothing but new and only listen to proven modelers/builders. And the rest is history. Glad I stuck with it though. I've got way more good stories than bad once I got the learning curve out of the way.
