The D3 Outboard folks are are gettin the pot stirred up for outboard racin and doin a good job...Soooo what hull out there would be the best candidate for a 20 stock OB or what ever its called?? I ran a Top Speed 2 with a K&B 3.55ss a few years ago and did OK with it but after watching whats out there now, i can see that its no match for the newer designs....And it appears also that O.S. is the way to go for power...any and all opinions appreciated!

The VS 1 with the OS is a rock solid combo.

Easy to setup, handles great, and is very durable.

I like the Villian,Vs-1 and going to try a Cobra each can be had for $200.00 or less 20Sport tunnel is a tuners class so be prepared to spend hours coaxing speed and making it corner with out lifting........ Oh and the k/b runs fine with a few internal mods.

The Shaman is being re-released in Nitro and FE versions as we speak, and I believe its going to blow the market open again. My FE tests, and its past record setting history are proving a deadly combo. Talk to me or Ron Drake for info, Mike

Bill,

The good news is you don't have to look too far to get a winning hull. Right here in FL you have the Lynx,Vision,Cobra and Sniper. Any one capable of winning any race. The VS-1 is the first "import" I would consider. With a 4 race tunnel series on the horizon with multiple record holders, national champions and US-1's in the field it will be interesting to see what manufacturer comes out on top. Maybe we need to add a builders trophy and add the points for the top 3 boats of each bulider.

Now if you can just light a fire under Foley and get him into an "outboard". Just getting you into the mix will be a boost for us.

Bill,

They are all good designs, but as far as I go, you get out of them what you put into them. I spend more on a 20 boat than the average racer, and it gives me an edge. UNFORTUNATELY speed co$t. Contact me or Drake and tell us what you are looking to do, and its a easy build. Now for the sales pitch: LYNX... RACE ONE OR CHASE ONE, its all up to you.

And.. be aware of any NEW boat coming forth.. ya just never know! Might want to keep an open mind.

the great thing about sport tunnel is more then most RC boat classes its a tuners game.. Chose your weapon, spend time at the pond and win races...

Pay your dews and your going to win races...

Remember.. in the sport tunnel game money is NO object.. BUT... truth is Sport Tunnel racing is very CHEAP! Again, your investment is time at the pond.

HMMM. Do we see a boat builders battle comming up? Mikes right on, on bang for your buck. The OS motor and lower unit once aquired is easy to tune, maintain and easy on fuel and glow plugs. Lots of competative K&B's out there too. This may be better than VW or Nissan comming to NASCAR. Any one hull has won big races so be fun to keep tabs on a full tunnel series and see who comes out on top. Your not going to find tougher competition east of the Mississippi.

you are dead, Mic and Grimmy, a stock motor will hold its own even in the mod class, lane 1 and a 50 mph boat can just about control the heat. What has happened here in the dirty South is we have pushed each other, and with basically 52 weeks a year of test-n-tune have gained a slight advantage, but only in time spent on the pond.

No battles here. I AM my own worst enemy. If I listen to Ron, I do well.

Porkchop (his pet name, no bromance here!) keeps me grounded. My pitman wins more races for me, if I lose it's because I didn't listen, or it broke.

You are very correct on being our own worst enemy. Been there done that. And true maybe a stocker can hold off a few but your 21 arsenal has a couple bullets a Nelson 45 would have trouble with. Then again comes the you're your own worst enemy thing. Tunnel Wars are heating up early this year. All I have is a warmed over OS to compete with. We don't want to hear no "Brokeback Tunnel" talk. What goes on in Brandon stays in Brandon.

The HTB 290 by Mark Hopper is in my opinion one of the most stable, forgiving and drivable boats for either 20 class. Handles rough water too. All the other "fast" hulls are fast on smoooooth water. 50% of the races U got rooooough water. The fastest boat is rarely the race winner unless the water is glass all weekend. Mark hopper is a class act guy and his prices are still the same as four years ago. The hulls are durable and strong, and have the right amount of weight and stability for either stock or mod class racing. I may be wrong but I think several records have been set with them so they can be as fast as the light hulls. In fact Kently Porter has one of the fastest 20 tunnels on the plannet and it is an HTB 290! Now, on the other hand, I just won the Fall Nationals Stock 20 class running my NOS Lynx with an OS 20 running 3 to 5 mph slower than the top dogs. I survived and finsihed every heat either in 2nd or 3rd place and brought home the wood. In four consecutive years of tunnel racing the absolute fact has surfaced (at least for me) that consistency is the key to winning a local club or district championship, not speed. The D12 20 Mod Tunnel Champion for 2009 ran an HTB 290 (NR full mod hanging on the back) last year. So, your hull selection should be based upon your true goal, do you want to be the occasioanl top dog, or are you going to strive for a championship. Another point is most of the modern hulls have tiny radio boxes that require tiny servos and tiny fingers. The HTB 290 has a full size radio box that is easy to work on and put full size servos in. Finally, Mark Hopper is from TN so you are garunteed real Southern hospitality, courtesy and honesty. That is my opinion, for what it is worth. I own some of them all by the way (over 20 tunnels) so I have no personal bias, just giving you the benefit of my non-retailer opinion. Merry Christmas, James Beasley

in my opinion the vision is the best. i run one in stock and mod. i have owned or run just about every other boat out there. the vision hands down is the best handling and most forgiving boat out there. i cant wait for the coming tunnel boat series to see if i can say its the fastest too..

Bill i just picked up a Vision Craft 40 Tunnel for the wife i cant wait to drive it myself lol see you on the saturday at the Winternats. Robert

bill the boat (cobra tunnel) i build is hands down the cheapest new boat you can buy in the area . and if you want to run stock with a OS or K&B you should consider my boat for $185.00 shipped in any color i offer . and as far as competive they run with the best . its all about what pushes it and how you got it set up . look at mary helwig she is running a sniper / cobra with a stock OS and i think she got 1st place for the namba district 3 season with that boat .

i can tell you guys by far hands down the nicest finished boat i have ever seen come my way is the vision craft... i have 2 of them myself and they are nice.. i have never owned a lynx but i hear they are sweet too, but you cant beat the price of a vision they are 250.00 i think and they have won races ..some of the new boats on the market cant say thet and the finish leaves some to be desired.

Come on Dan, you can do better than "mine is the cheapest". McDonalds has .49 cent burgers on Wed. and Sun. but that don't make me wanna eat there. Dollar General sells John Wayne ruff-n-ready toilet paper, but you don't use it without walkin' funny. Give yourself more credit than that. Do I have to break out a 15 year old Trophy Tunnel? In the 'decade of the '90's we went 7 or 8 consecutive years as D3 points champ with Otto, Keith Young, Myself and Richard Marowski. Mary has done a fantastic job driving, consistently showing up at the race and finishing.
