From the Ford forum :

V-10 running rough at idle , chugging.

Hi , new to the forum and a problem has developed with my 2004 E-350 V- 10 after having a new fuel Filter installed and the induction service done . Picked it up from a local shop and it was running rough after bringing it in when running great ! I figured maybe it fouled a plug or something so I drove it home but it didn't improve so I brought it back and had new plugs installed . It is still running rough and wanting to almost stall when acellerating from a stop and the shop cant figure it out , not showing any codes .

No other problems with the vehicle , I drive it everyday and have owned since new . 278,000 on it now and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned . Thanks in advance for any insight !!

Help , Vanless in Hudson !!

Plug wires on wrong cylynder
It started before they changed the plugs.

Is it possible to install that filter backwards Tom ??

What type of induction service and what product used- Depending on method they very well could have killed the TPS -

Seen that before on throttle bodies. Did it to myself on my Jeep -_-

Sounds like it fouled a plug to start with, get autozone to scan it. If no codes exist and some do without a light then a dealer can do a power balance test and find the cylinder causing it. Sometimes to coils dont get plugged back up all the way. Im too far away if it was here I could find it in 5 minutes

Mike , It's still at the shop and when it went in it was running great , I drive it 70 - 100 miles everyday . Glenn ,I don't need anything like that, the van has awesome power and I have changed the oil at 2500- 3000 miles since new , it pays off .

Like I said this just started when they changed the fuel filter , and did an "induction service " Then I pick it up and it's running rough . I bring it back and told them to put plugs in it anyway as they did it once at 125,00 and now at 278,000 miles . Van still got the same mileage as it did when new even with plugs that old .

I thought that would fix it as I figured the induction service had fouled a plug or something . Tomorrow will tell the story , I am going to speak with them and find out the game plan . The good thing is they are good friends and very trustworthy , I just hope it's not an R/D exercise ???!!!

Tom,

Have them double check all of the vacum lines, one may have been mistakenly left off or loose after the service was completed.
Something along those lines - good suggestion or that TPS - IF they fogged it cause it was easier to do vs. other methods due to the vehicle it is- a pita to access- It may very well have damaged the TPS or air flow meter if equipped ??

Its FOR SURE something caused by the original service- now just what ? Really really depends on the tech and his skill level, seen some scary stuff working both sides of that business for 25 years  I will do a little digging in the am Tom, keep us posted with any new info.

Tom, only mentioned the timing gears/chain as it happened to me before on a olds 442. My late father had a newer Olds that would stall when pulling away from stops and hesitate on on-ramps when brand new. He kept taking it back to the dealer for months- no codes- finally he took it to a older mechanic and the problem was dirt in the injectors- any chance a small piece of dirt got into the system when filter was changed?

Tom, what kind of induction service did they do? If you can provide that info I am sure that between mikey and my self we can probably get you going. been a Ford senior master tech for over 30 years. be glad to help. Rick

Possibly as the filter was totally FUBAR !!!!

Being a 04 its probably a ele tb If its running that bad it will tell on itself. Note to self dont do another induction service, snake oil. I sell them every day because im made to upsell, the best cleaner is a can of B-G 44K in the fuel tank

Mike, it is not an electronic t-body vehicle, just the normal t-body with mass airflow. like you I think it is probably a coil or fouled plug. I have had coils go bad just looking at them. hard to sell the customer when it came in running fine but now needs a coil. one of fords better designs. oh well it keeps me in play money.
