Guys I want to switch my 205-75-R15 trailer tires for some 60 series Bridgstones (205-60-r15). Is there any concern using car tires on our lightly oaded traikers (Mines a 6x10 all aluminum wedge nose).

As long as the load rating on the tires is high enough you should be fine.

Don't skimp out on the load rating just because you think it will be lightly loaded.

If it is a #2500 axle the tire should be rated over #1300 for safety factor.

Tony . radial tire for a trailer . Switched to radials on mine when i was drag racing . Never go back to bias again .

yup what Danny said, Skinny trailer tires look ugly but you will have more flats without them. Mine air at 60psi and I thought that was high so I lowered the pressure to 35 and blew a tire near Birmingham. New tire and took it back they told me it was under inflated 100 bucks later and im smarter

Tires for a SAFE trailer..... GOOD DISCUSSION :) :) :)
Tony,

Here in the States most states require a regular trailor tire on trailors NOT Car tires, K mart Walmart and sams will not put car tires on a trailor, I have had very good service out of trailor tires, and have over 20,000 on the set I put on and still going strong. I agree about not using Goodyear trailor tires my first set were Goodyears and they all blew up within 3,000 miles.

It sounds like you are just trying to make the trailer look good. if so make sure you have a jack and a spare.

Get a set of carlisle and be done. They will cost a bit more but worth it. and they will have to order them in.

Also on any tire make sure the date code is within the last yr.

tires are on sale for a reason.

Just my 2cents.

I have had the best luck towing trailers in South TX.in the heat,With the Carlisle hands down. It is in my opinion.

My job with the fleet management contractor for AT&T I do the DOT's on there trailers as part of my job. Any tire more than 3 years old is replace no mater what the condition.

Date codes are a 4 digit number cast into the side walls in a oval patch.

The first two are the week in that year and the second two are the year.

The Don and I had problems with the tires on his trailer and found out they were made in China. One blew out on the trip back from Hobart last year and took the fender with it. Never found the fender! Went to my tire guy here locally and got all new Goodyear Marathon tires ( which are trailer tires )............problem solved. Don's trailer is a 14 X 7, I believe and it gets packed pretty good when we go to the races. All 4 tires run at 45 PSI each. As David W. says check the date codes when buying ANY tire.

First and foremost regardless of who makes the tires (but ditch them if they're Chinese) NEVER run them underinflated. Second check the pressures often as I've found that trailer tires for whatever reason tend to be more porous and need air more often than car or truck tires. Also how do you store your trailer in the off season? Here's a suggestion that was passed on to me that I do- lower the front down about as low as the tongue jack will let it go. If you have built in stabilizer jacks at the back corners release them and drop the feet, if the trailer doesn't have them put a couple jack stands on the frame in the same rear area on both sides. Then crank the front back up so that you take almost all the weight off the tires. This supposedly will help prevent the belts in the tires from taking a "set" and creating a weakened area on the belt webbings when the tires get put back into service. B)

Tony, if you do go to a 60 series tire, go up on the first #. a 215/60 will be very close in height to a 205/75. a 205/60 won't be as tall, spins faster. more wear & tear on wheel bearings & the tire itself.

Anthony

I think you should put chrome 20's with the spinning centers on it. That way, when me a Teddy steal it, we will be looking good. It's fun to do bad things with my friends..........

Or... You and Teddy could steal a set of chrome 20's and help out your friend Anthony. Lol

Then when they are replaced I will take both sets for my trailer. Oh will you have the spair the same as the ones on the trailer? Could use it as well.
