I am will never call my boat a toy again. I never felt so insulted then I did this weekend when I was told that all we do is run toy boats! I know we do not sit in theses things but come on a TOY? Maybe it is just me.

I agree, it's amazing what the wrong adjective can do to perception!

I think it would have been quite a show for us to have had a large number of our scale boats on the tables out front of the announcers booth during the Regatta. We saw Greg B's Miss Elam and a poster board sign there which was good but we're missing a perfect chance to promote what we do.

I mentioned this to Ken H. on Sunday that we could have put on quite a scale static show. Different than a mall show or something like that, there are boat race fans there in droves. The interest in boats is there already in place, all we need to do is feed it a little and we could not only gain in respect but also maybe get some folks interested in joining our ranks.

You guys (Madison club) put on a great show Friday, I'm sure with a little help we could make some waves at the regatta on Sat and Sun, with a good static show.

Just food for thought and a willingness to help :)

Face it man, that's what they are....toys. They are just as much a toy as the big ones. The only difference is the cost....and thats objective. If some sponsor threw a couple million at me and said throw me a unlimited team together, I'd say no thank you, I'm having too much fun with these little boats. here we have total control. We don't have to keep sponsors happy. We don't have to keep a team of specialists handy to fix stuff. etc. etc. etc.

The guys at work kidd me all the time about my "TOY BOATS". Then I take them to the pond and the first thing they say is holy crap that thing is fast. They dont kidd so much anymore. Ryon

Well, I had to put up with an airplane (toy airplanes that is) buddy asking me if I was out playing with "my widdle boats!!"

Then I showed him what an 80 MPH fast electric mono looks like!! No more "widdle boat" comments.

But in the end, they are what they are. Our toys. I never take offense at it. I have a friend who owns a full size Scarab offshore boat. The name on the stern is "My Toy" .

Like they say, the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys!!

Call em what you will, but I think we play with some of the coolest "toys" around. I have a great deal of respect with the models/toys that Greg chooses to play with besides the boats because my bro does the 1/4 scale rc planes also- but to me, the boats are the most bang for your buck. Call them what you will, but until your holding the transmitter with 6 or 7 other guys in a tight race- your not well informed. ;)

Dosent "toy" refer more to having "fun" with it ... if your not having fun , then it must be work .

Fun ....... is sneaking a new toy home from the LHS , that you didnt expect to find. at the worst time.and the misses has you under pressure.. thats real fun ..

LOL's

When travelling overseas with them I always state "toy boats" and have walked straight through customs.

Made the wrong mistake the first time coming back from US in 04 when I told them it was a radio controlled boat. They opened the box and then asked if I'd purchased it in the US and when I said no, they asked me to prove it. How do you prove that you built a wood boat, after 2 hours I convinced them. They then noticed it was wood and then had to wait for them to do a complete inspection of the boat and the box. After 4 1/2 hours I finally got through customs.

"Yes Officer they are toy boats!".

A toy is something you work on all week to have fun with on the weekends. Then come Monday, it starts all over again, and if it don't you didn't have enough fun with it. :D

nothing wrong with our boats being called toys. My 600+hp mustang outside is my toy too...

"boys and their toys"

Yup. Before the boating bug latched onto me I was restoring vintage Corvettes. Whenever someone called & I was messin' with them my wife would tell the caller I'm in the shop working on my toys. :p

No matter what, these boats will always be perceived as toy store toys by "outsiders" ..... until they see one go!! :D

People usually call them "toys" until I tell them that some of the "toys" exceed 100 mph. Their expression changes real fast!

and at least our toy boys are a little cheaper then our toy cars. For what i have in the motor alone in just one of my mustangs, i could have an entire room full of quickdraw powered boats
