Common courtesy and common sense aren't so common.

I blame our "advancement" for some of this. I mean really think about it... How often do you see kids today outside playing? Heck no! They want an xbox, tablet or other electronic advancements to entertain them, why use your brain when there are devices to do this for you. (This from the person that makes a living off of the cellular industry) I mean really is our advancement all that great or have we just handicapped younger generations by giving them instant gratification options?

I remember a year ago seeing a horrific car accident, no one stopped but me, as a matter of fact people got angry that the totaled cars were in the way an were honking for them to move. People were hurt and assistance was needed but all most could think of was going on with what THEY needed to do. It was sad and disgusting. I still hope it never happens to them or their loved ones.

Times have indeed changed... but not necessarily for the better in my opinion.
Not that I wouldnt stop, but a lot of people are also SCARRED to help anymore, as we also live in a sue happy society. You can look at someone wrong and be slapped with a law suite.

Pretty crazy really.

See, thats where I dont have the patience. Perhaps thats a generational thing? I would have picked it up and tryed to contact the person who's phone it was. But the second or third time they gave me the run around, I would not have waited any longer, and would have dropped it off at the customer service desk.

People who are MORE then willing to go out of there way to make sure the rightful owner gets there stuff back, then get taken advantage of for there kindness. Thats where I lose that "patience" thing and go on about my day.
I was heading into the store anyhow BUT... still .

Next time I am going the route suggested by others lost and found.

It happened Wednesday on my way to my youngest Gdaughters Bday party after work...nothing dramatic mind you, heading West on S.R. 54(3 lanes of complete mayhem) a car is sitting in the middle lane, traffic is blitzing by this poor person at the speed of sound, i go by and i see a woman by herself, fairly terrified...i get to the first U-turn, and go back to the car....i just cant belive that with all the cars that went by this poor person, no one even attempted to help her out in some way...anyway, as i start to push her car off the road, along came a nice kid to lend a hand....he said he passed by her, but he just didnt feel right about leaving her stranded there and didnt want to read in the newspaper about a bad accident on 54 because of a car that had broken down...he didnt want that on his conscience....i was glad to find out that there are still a few people that still have one of those......consciences, that is.

I have no idea why I would tell you guys this but I collect books on etiquette. I have over 15 books in my collection all the way back to 1915.

So fun stuff is:

The difference between dinner and supper

The difference between a lady on your right or left. (HINT KEEP EM ON YOUR RIGHT SIDE!)

How you pass somebody on the street and the proper way to do so.

The proper way to deal with your plate after a meal…..

The list goes on and on and on and on.. ALL GOOD even today!

Grim
mike, i was prolly raised with some of those books. i knew who emily post was early on..... values, courtesy & respect today are VASTLY different than what i grew up knowing. all i can say, it is utterly depressing to see the differences.

A little off topic but I have a rant. Just had dinner at Appleby's and happened to get seated by the window facing the parking lot. You would not believe how many perfectly healthy people got out of cars parked in the handicap parking spots. God forbid someone with a real handicap came and needed one of those spots. They would have had to park in the back forty. So lets say you have a knee replaced and you need a handicap pass for your mirror. Now it's two years later and it's good as new. Do you really need to still park up front? Is this a life time pass cause you had surgery? What the hell??? OK got that off my chest .Wheewww feel better now.
that must be the world record, You have just surpassed the A.M.A. as the most brilliant doctor. You can see thru clothing, and diagnose real medical issues.

We didn't question your choice of restaurants, which seems to be a far more serious issue.

I gave Applebees on 4th st. your number. They are deeply concerned as to the rampant overrun of handicap people in Pinellas county, and will now put you in charge of parking. Your an hour late for your early bird shift. Get to crackin.

When my wife walks up and kicks you, not with the knee she had replaced, it will remind you to walk with a cane, like she has to sometimes. And the doctor did not renew her permit.

what if you couldn't afford to have your knee replaced mike? & suffered with it every day? do i look like i'm handicapped at the races? i live with 1 knee the size of a grapefruit that feels like a pea shelling machine full of gravel. other than a slight limp, & the inability to carry much weight very far, it's not obvious, but i suffer with it every step of every day on the concrete shop floor. don't judge a book by it's cover ;) . btw, i will NEVER argue that folks don't "ride the sticker", park momma's car up front to go grap a pack of smokes, but not all of them.......no hard feelings, mike. see ya at the wtc!!

I see lots of talk about doing the right thing. What is proper and as Grim dose collect books on old fashion values.

I am not a very religious person.

Grew up a member of the first Presbyterian church founded in the USA.

But never really talk about or got into the "GOD" thing.

But what changed my view of life and doing the right thing was reading every thing written in red in the Gideon Bible when I was in the hospital for a week at age 16.

Did not even know what I was reading but it was so simple and true I could not stop reading it.

I have always tried to live my life to those values.

Funny how thing happen some times.
