While driving through the parking lot at Fred Meyers I witnessed a man fall, just dropped right down on his face.

No one stopped to help and some literally stepped over the guy.

Jumped out of my truck and checked him out, He had experienced a stroke

People stood inside the building with their faces plastered to the glass and no one came to assist

Finally a couple young boys came out and called 911

I was just astounded

That is that is the society we live in
Not all of society Richard...YOU went to help that man...what bothers me so deeply is how many DIDNT. They should hang thier head in shame.

Hard to make this not sound like bragging, but....people who know me, know that....im the guy that lets cars in whether thay thank me or not...when someone lets me in, i make SURE they know i appreciate it...I STILL say thank you mam, or sir, pardom me mam or sir, may i help you? (raised military, THANK GOD)CANNOT pass by a Salvation Army bell ringer without dropping money in, take the Gkids shopping to pick up stuff for toys for tots every year, even when we shouldnt because money is tight......but its always tight, so what the hell...well do it again this year, and i may not even have a job in 6 months. I know it all sounds like alot of bull, but i had a father who DEMANDED courtesy and respect, and a mother who believed in in humility and giving to those less fortunate, even if some were dishonest about thier situation, and got away with it, my heart was still in the right place by trying to do a good deed. Im thankful for the kind of parents i had, and i also believe that there should be a law in this country making mandatory for kids coming out of high school to serve two years in the military...wouldnt bother me a bit......oh,and the movie "Falling Down".......GREAT!
Bill are we related some how!!!!!! Could not have said it better..................==={}

Reminds me a little of last years W/N - Bill and I where RIGHT THERE when someone slipped and fell with a running gas boat- coulda been really bad.

But Bill jumped right in with me behind him and we did what was right- helped.............

There where literally guys tossing boats around this guy - Had I been a driver on the stand at that point- Had I not shut down my engine prior to launch and helped or at least got out of the way - shame on me .

Ray, if we're on the same page with this issue, being related to you would be FINE BY ME! Andy, that was a scary deal wasnt it! It happened so FAST! Glad it was a good ending! See, here's the thing....on a few occaisions ive witnessed accidents that happened right in front of me...I stopped and got out to help, and was SCARED TO DEATH the whole time till i got to whoever was hurt....I remember everytime it happened, and i was running to try to help, im thinking in my head LORD give me the strength to do the right thing....I wonder how people can actually just ignore something like that and SLEEP AT NIGHT! I would only hope that there might be someone out there who would lend me a hand if the table was turned, and i was the guy who was hurt, or even MORE IMPORTANT, someone in my family, or a friend........

I know alot of us were brought up to be curtious with everyone and help people that need to be helped i think alot of the problem now a days is people think they might get sued just trying to help someone our society has changed and people like to sue folks over nothing. I grew up having my parents from ole country my Mom from Ireland and my Dad from england so i grew up respecting everyone and taught to help everyone unlike todays world Robert

A little off topic but I have a rant. Just had dinner at Appleby's and happened to get seated by the window facing the parking lot. You would not believe how many perfectly healthy people got out of cars parked in the handicap parking spots. God forbid someone with a real handicap came and needed one of those spots. They would have had to park in the back forty. So lets say you have a knee replaced and you need a handicap pass for your mirror. Now it's two years later and it's good as new. Do you really need to still park up front? Is this a life time pass cause you had surgery? What the hell??? OK got that off my chest .Wheewww feel better now.

I found a phone in the Walmart parking lot.. One of those 500 dollar fancy smart phones with a blinged out plastic case. I noticed the phone laying on the ground because it blinded me in the sun. (I was on my way to Winternats 2012 to set up my stuff) . I called the contact under "Mom" on contacts and got some lady who told me she was getting ready to go out on her boat and seemed a bit .. drunk, speaking english but no so well. She told me it was her daughters and that her daughter would call me. Daughter calls. and asks I wait at Walmart so she can come get her phone and that she stays a mile away. 30 minutes go by... I call mom back, no answer, so I call the contact listed recent calls that has about 20 connections that day; some guy answers and interrogates me as to why I am calling and how I know her; after trying to explain what the heck I am doing, the guy says nothing in regards to being an A hole then gets the gal who comes on the line and says she will be there in a minute and tells me this big story of how she had to get ready to go on the boat with her mom and that this is delaying her plans 30 more minutes pass by. Now I am in the store and the lost phone rings, it is the gal who lost it and wants to know where I am at seems mad I am not in front of the store... and I need to meet her right away because she is late for the boating exscursion, (I already knew this but she had to make that point again)... soooooo I tell her to meet me at the front of the store. So here she is with her Caddy Escalade parked in front booming bass, gets out, comes strolling up and acts like she is inconveinenced because I was not waiting for her in front of the store. Of course she was decked out in high end jewels, sunglasses, etc etc.. Grabs the phone like I stole it, no thank you .. no hello and just turns around struts to the Caddy, (in huge high heels, for boating?) then takes off. The iciing on the cake was the Obama sticker on the car, (no tag) and when she left the male driver had to drag race in front of the store at an UNSAFE speed drawing attention from everyone. NICE!

That made me fell WARM AND FUZZY!

Next time it goes to lost and found.

Next time just run it over! (If it's all blinged out)
Lost and found.

They could have least gave me beer money. Four beers gone while waiting and I had a four beer drive to the pond ahead of me, good thing there was no traffic that day, it could have turned into a six beer run to the pond if they wasted more of my time.

Mike what you said about people in handicap spots that dont look handicap is hurtful to me, my wife didnt look handicap either but was couldnt walk far and had heart problems she was grateful she had the sticker and was able to park close, same when it came to racing she needed a spot close to the pits but talking with her seeing her she did not look handicap, you can not go by looks it self, even if they dont look handicap more times they are. Robert

Not to mind anyone's business But I think Mike is referring to the Red mirror hanger like I had a while back. . I have seen women in thier 20s park in handicap spots with the red handicap permits displayed and run into the gym to work out, only because it is raining out. That is stealing a spot from someone who needs it. Same with if I have a permit holder riding with me I will drop them at the door and park in the back forty then come and pick them up after so someone without help can use the spot.

Oh i agree there Norm there are people who have had the stickers in the past but keep using them when there is nothing wrong with them Robert

Having thought about this topic

I think this all started with Ray Kroc

The ME generation "Have it your way"

Special orders don't upset us

instant gratification, and expecting exactly that "instant"

Also reading through the thread leads me to believe that this group of people really cares about and are willing to help others.

Im glad I signed up here

We can be a little overboard on our opinions/setups/what works and what doesn't at times Richard

But as a whole, you will find no better group of people than rc boat racers IMHO . It seems somewhere in the insanity that drives us to play with toy boats- there is a common thread of decency between us.

Norm, knowing you're a good guy you'd do it again....... so would I. We old schoolers for some unexplainable reason keep looking for that one individual who will actually say thank you and somewhat redeem the less than stellar current humanity. HOWEVER, if the next time a similar scenario plays out dial some 900 bill by the minute number THEN drop it in the lost and found still connected. ;)

Yes, I think after about the 3rd discussion with the Owners of the phone I would have just handed it to some kid and said "Free unlimited phone, go have fun with it!"...nawww, I would have hung out and waited just like Norm, but the thought would have certainly crossed my mind.

See, thats where I dont have the patience. Perhaps thats a generational thing? I would have picked it up and tryed to contact the person who's phone it was. But the second or third time they gave me the run around, I would not have waited any longer, and would have dropped it off at the customer service desk.

People who are MORE then willing to go out of there way to make sure the rightful owner gets there stuff back, then get taken advantage of for there kindness. Thats where I lose that "patience" thing and go on about my day.

I stumbled in here and went to the last page so bear with me.

Norrm just remember you did the right thing!

Me and the wife talk about this new generation all the time and how thy want it all and right now!!!

But if I look back and take off the Rose glases I was the same.

So it is what it is.

When you get older you kinda forget what it was to be young.

So get out of the way you old farts here thy come.

Common courtesy and common sense aren't so common.

I blame our "advancement" for some of this. I mean really think about it... How often do you see kids today outside playing? Heck no! They want an xbox, tablet or other electronic advancements to entertain them, why use your brain when there are devices to do this for you. (This from the person that makes a living off of the cellular industry) I mean really is our advancement all that great or have we just handicapped younger generations by giving them instant gratification options?

I remember a year ago seeing a horrific car accident, no one stopped but me, as a matter of fact people got angry that the totaled cars were in the way an were honking for them to move. People were hurt and assistance was needed but all most could think of was going on with what THEY needed to do. It was sad and disgusting. I still hope it never happens to them or their loved ones.

Times have indeed changed... but not necessarily for the better in my opinion.
