Anyone else into these things? They've always intrigued me. My Uncle has 2 amazing examples. One is a twin engine the other a single. The craftsmanship is just awesome. He knew the fella that built them & got the two boats, some graduated cylinders deals for mixing fuel, the tether cables, a rule book, carry box etc. The collection is cool. Found this one on ebay the buy it now price is impressive! Any takers? tether boat on ebay

Joe,

Maybe we should start a club here in TC. Traverse Tether Boat Club.

Bring one over next week and we could build a few newer ones to test.

I have some propellers that will work quite well on them.

It Would Be Fun,

Mark Sholund

Guys, that is just too cool.

Yet another addictive class to this great hobby. I had seen the cars in the past but never the boats, man do they scream, simply amazing.

Darin, thanks for those links to the vids, love the drivers stand in the first one, and the fourth link does not work, can you fix it, please please, gotta see em all.

Hey Grim, when can we expect to see an Aquacraft RTR version ?

Doug

A BIG THANKS for sharing those links - I spent @2hrs just reading the history - speeds of up to 100MPH in the 50's and 60's OMG; and Darin those Vids are GREAT - I never would have guessed 1) there was such a thing and 2) they are so FAST. Incredibly COOL!!!!!

I don't see the big deal. I have seen numerous people lose radio and do the same thing.

Years ago a guy had a couple that looked similar to the one on EBay. At first I thought, "you really need a life" and then he told me they ran 100mph. I think I met him at the Greenbriar, Maryland race if anybody can refresh my memory. Cool old stuff anyway.

no doubt Preston. My buddy had a prather pirahna that lost the radio, looked like tether boat for sure, with no tether. All you can do is watch it making larger & larger circles, closer & closer to shore, what a helpless feeling! Ran through the tank of fuel- 1 more lap & I'm sure it would've hit the beach. It was pretty funny & thankfully we were the only ones at the pond.

  Funny stuff Preston. I think Don Sparr dad used to run tether boats, I remember one year he brought all his stuff to Greenbrier to exhibit. Pretty cool stuff, when you think what they had too work with back in the day. B) B)
