My friend Aaron Alberico recently tried his hand and straight away trials in the US. Using an own modified 09 Picco 45 he ran the fastest engine powered (ie not electric) RC boat straight away pass ever, here is the video:

I took several readings with my acoustical tachometer from the computer speakers. 33, 450 to 34,000 is what I read.

Read it going away and compare it to coming at you. The rpm will read differently. Take the average to make up for the doppler effect is what you are saying I'm sure.
