Ok, how about this, anyone can copy someone elses product and do it cheaper because they don't have any time or money invested in development.

Like I said before, Zenoah copied the Solo four port design so where is their cost of development?

oh my god.....

i'm tired of this thread.....

whoooooo cares!

lets hit this horse a few more times

ok so that was not P.C. forget i said that.

derek,

i respect your opinion on this, and i definitly agree with you on splashing hulls,

but dont you think that almost DOUBLE what other people can afford to sell the same thing for is pushin it a little? true, zenoah deserves some royalties for the R&D [if they actually did come up with the engine] but it seems to me like they've been exploiting the fact that they are the only supplier of race-quality engines for a long time, and apparently never bothered to patent it?

if they truly are better at designing engines than superior, they'll simply come out with a better engine and patent it this time, giving us the consumers a better engine at a better price.

Lax

You say the zenoah costs too much. Have you priced a comparable sized nitro engine?

ROTFLMAO

At the end of the day - it's a 2 stroke engine. they have been around for many, many years - who copied who?

Sharing the same mountings etc. makes sense to me - aftermarket stuff will fit it!

If it is not "superior" to the Zen - then people will upgrade to a Zen at minimal hassle due to the common mounts, pipe etc.

How would you feel if the owner, CEO, president or whatever, of the company you work for, shipped your job to Mexico, India, China, or a third world country.
For thoes that do, I hope that there is a 14 year old boy in Mexico working for a bowl of beans and a roll of toilet paper a week doing your job tomorrow.
This is a gross exaggeration. The reality is that the manufacturing costs are much closer than most people think. Last weekend I was watching a show on Speed TV comparing a Toyota Camary to a Ford Contour. The manufacturing cost differance was less than $200.00. It's foolish to think anly the big 3 make American cars. My Ford Sport Trac has less american parts than a Honda Accord. The best example is the new GTO. An original muscle car. Not really since it's actually a knock of of a Holden.

Joe,

It is a Holden Monaro with a different nose - built here in Australia. Holden is GM in Oz.

Hey Hap,

How the h--- did this get out there so fast, almost feel like I should've sent you private e mail, wonder how many of us a running modified motors with parts from another different motor     As Mr Bill says Oh Nooooooooooo, what did I just say?

I think enough is enough, I was just chasing down a posted request from Hap, (also for myself I run gas along with nitro), time to let it die

Derek,

i didnt really mean it costs too much, i just meant it cost alot more than they could be selling them for. your right they are not bad compared to nitro, though really if you think about what objects that would seem to have similar value costs in different businesses [like car parts or computer parts] the same amount of materials and labor is sold for alot less outside of the hobby business. probly because its a much smaller market so everyone's gotta jack the prices up, i dunno im not an economist [yet at least  ].

Tom,

well we care obviously! :)

dont worry this is a logical discussion not a senseless argument, nobody will be killed/crippled/beaten with a zenoah crankshaft as a result of what they said on here, which is a plus that some forums im not sure have

forgot to log in, that me unregisted post

But it was amusing for awhile

If you think that is a gross exxageration you should talk to anybody in Cedar Rapids Iowa who use to work at Square-D. They shipped a bunch of jobs to Mexico.

And yes the mexican workers get a roll of toilet paper with their paycheck at the end of the week because they kept steeling it out of the bathrooms. (They no longer supply the company bathrooms with butt wipe, thet have to bring their "weekly rolls").

DJT, it goes both ways. Austin TX owes over 50,000 jobs to japanese companies that decided to have their products made in the lone star state. Same thing with the auto industry.

Hi Guy's

I can't get over some of the logic in this thread. Taking jobs from one country to another goes on all the time as the companies are in business to make money for shareholders. This engine can't be Patented because it's not a new idea and you can only patent ideas and the designs that go with them. This would be a copyright issue. Chances are it can't even be copyrighted because as has been mentioned the 4 port Zenoah engine design was 'borrowed' from Solo. Solo 4 port engines have been around for over 10 years. I think if you check-in to it you will probably find that both engines are made in the same factory. Oh by the way Zenoah is actually Komatsu/Zenoah - a Japanese company. Providing both a branded and generic line of engines is a good ploy for manufacturers because it increases their market share and they can sell engines to people who might not otherwise have brought them.

I think I agree with an earlier post - this horse is stone cold dead.
