Careful using 24v on 12 / 21 motors- Easy to hurt one if you fail to clear it out prior to spinning it over, the stater easily overcomes the hydrolic

I guess you are not familiar with my 12V super starter with 12V four wheeler starter motor. Boris

Hi Boris,

I'm very famialiar with your starter; however, your starter does not work for outboards... Or, so I believe. I can easily reverse the polarity of the Sullivan starter to work on both inboards and outboards.

Dean I use a Makita 18 v on a 12 volt starter. I made a reverse jumper out of a extension cord, The male and female make it easy to reverse in a second

The reversing is the easy part but I don't think Boris has a cone for the outboard???

I have been using a 4 cell for some time now also on a cheapo 12v. I wish they would come out with a smaller starter. Not so bulky. After all I don't ever plan on going bigger than a 45 boat.

I have bent rods in .12 engines using 24 volts.. also had the switch begin to stick in the on position for the starter..

No wonder! You bents rod - the hydraulic impact of fuel or water.

The switch is tooooo weak for 24 V - the disconnection ark will weld it!

oh I understand how i did it for sure.. Im just surprised more people did not have switch failure with 24v on a 12v starter

I've got a Dynatron and a Model 4. On the Dynatron short bursts of 24 volts is OK but not for periods of over 15 seconds. I prefer my Dynatron but I've also got it equipped with a Speedmaster starting handle.

only my 2nd post and curious what you guys are doing about the switch on the starter. Old boat from way back and the only problem I have had was the starter not wanting to shut off. Are there any good fixes or just need to clean it up really good. Thanks

It's probably spot welded itself together. You would probably have to take the switch apart, polish it up and reassemble it, if you're using the strip switch
