nope.... the boat was pretty much a total loss and way too hard to get it from place to place since i no longer have the s10, even though the honda would be better than my acura was, since the back seats fold down i want to do some powered boating. i found a sawn flaping its wings can give off a nice gust of wind if only i could harness that power :) not that i would ever intentionally harm or harrass wild life

Gee now that i have my glasses on it makes me wonder what fate came upon Temporary Insanity I ???

Well If I did not have one I do now.. ;D

This last weekend and the Sardine classic I was asked by one of the racers if I would like to drive his P sport (FE) hydro in a heat. Heck yea I said. Are you kidding me I would love to.

Well if you can not trust a 5 time international champ who can you trust with your $700.00 dollar boat... Anyhow. Charley, the poor guy that trusted me with his pride and joy along with the other guys in my heat, were in for a real show from a (five time ace) right,,, wrong...

Having never driven the boat before I asked my pit dude to launch me to the left so that I could get a feel for the boat.. We did this at the 20 sec mark and away I went. The boat was pulling a tad but not to bad so (the boat was looking like 50 or so MPH) here we go 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 SMACK.. A boat right there. Was it me, was it him???? Not sure. I lifted from the power and the then (STUCK TOGETHER BOATS) came apart.. Whew.. I thought.. not so bad.. wait...where is the other boat?? Crap it is not in sight.. IT HAS.....SUNK.

Folks this is a big bad dollar brushless motor and a fast contender for the heat. Both boats could have won the heat. My head was about the size of the hemorrhoid on my A$$ and I was down for the count. The owner of the lost boat was in good sprits. (i felt like, whats he going to do crab at the CD and five time International champ).. This is the ugly part of winning a big race or two. He should have been cranked and he might have been but he was good about the whole thing.

Now for some good news. The boat was recovered. I understand that the batteries, motor and boat will all run again. The ESC on the other hand might not but I did not get the full report.

I would like to thank Charley for the chance to drive his boat. He trusted me and I feel like I let him down. Doug I hope that you will still take me up on the repaint and do any rebuild on the boat this winter after you get it through the racing season.

Both of these guys are now my friends and that the real story, and a big deal to me.

Grim the P hydro wantabe.

ROCK ON :)

Hey Grim...is this a pic of the recovery? ;D

Sounds like you had a great time and met some great people.

Back in 1992 I bought a carbon Fiber 3.5 Killer Tunnel hull. This was my first brand new EVERYTHING, no more hand-me-down crap. I had my buddy put a custom $250 paint job, FM radio, hi-torque servos brand new K&B. BOOM, started it, launched it was rippin, well my radio was operating backwards, it barrel rolled in turn 2, I get in the row boat and right before my eye's the B!$#* SANK!!!!

My friend went scuba diving with this $5 underwater flash light. Came up crying that it was the darkest dark in a dark room you could be in with your eyes closed and blinfolded. :(

I wish Lorenzo Martinez was on this board, he posts on RC listbot. He was being trained to work our race retreiveal boat. He stands up and that tubby kid does a belly flop right into the water, he got up full of mud, none the less they call him Mud Hen now....LOL   HA HA

Hey Rodney just wait till I tell Loranzo that you capping on him :D You'll owe me more that a box of CHIPS hahahhahahah.....

Since I did not belong to this forum when this thread was started but someone else has revisited it....listen to this one. My first RC engine....AMPS outboard, 67 size with a K&B powerhead. I had bought this motor brand new from international hobbies and had it for about 6 months when I finally put it on a boat. I wanted to test fire the engine that night before running the boat the next day. Motor was being hard to start and after about 4 or 5 attempts it fired up and then WHACK!!!!!....stops. Knowing something had gone wrong I reached up and turned the flywheel. Con rod had broke. After removing the powerhead I noticed something strange when I turned the prop. The engine had stopped so fast that it broke at least one of the teeth off of the gears in the AMPS lower unit. Just that fast, the motor was junk....top and bottom. Keep in mind that this was 1987 and this pretty little outboard engine cost $265. Not one to give up, I went and bought a regular old K&B outboard.......and I have been running them ever since.

I was living in Lafayette, La at the time and drove 3 hours to my 1st race only to find that I left my radio at home.

man I love this!!!!

I may have to get into racing so I can see some of you guys do this stuff!!!!!

and uh.. uh... maybe do some stuff of my own...... uh... er....

A buddy of mine got a used mrp mach 1 tunnel with a k&b outboard at the time I was just getting started and had built a all balsa 05 electric 1/16 scale atlas knock off (painting skills are not up to speed so it got the one color job). I helped him get it started and run it. but all day he was trying to get me in the water with him and I keep telling him no b/c I don't trust his or my driving skills...

but going against my best judgement I decided at the end of the day on the last run to throw mine in the water....

I told him to keep turning in a right circle and it won't be a problem....

everything was going good I was running on the inside cause my boat was a little slower and could turn sharper..

watching my boat I make a turn and do a quick scan.... were is bobby I think to myself...

then I here "watchout!!!!! Richard!!!!!" I turn right out of habit and guess who turns left AGAIN????

I can tell you one thing that little balsa boat took a t-bone smack from a abs sponson and I drove it back... the damage wasn't as bad as I thought... he felt pretty bad for a while I had to wait a couple of days before I started ribbing him for turn left not just once but twice!!!!! and make a few other comments about dealing with his anger and not taking it out on electric boats that run just as fast as his nitro!!!!

I was running a pretty new Seaducer in Indy, I think it was about '95. I was just testing and yes, had no flotation. The boat finially got dialed in and was running very well. The boat rolled in a turn and sank!... One minute I had a fast new boat. Then next minute I had a transmitter.

I hired a diver who was able to retrieve the boat. He couldn't see either but he did this.

One guy stood on the shore about in line with where I thought is went down. He had a long rope that the diver held. The diver went out about 30-40 feet and started using the rope as a tether. he would go one direction still he was about 15 ft from shore, the guy on shore would let out a few feet of rope and the diver circled back. The diver was pretty much feeling with his hands the whole time but they found it in about 20 min..

He said this is the way they look for sunken snowmobiles in wisconson in the summer...

Only cost me $75

Hmmm... maybe i should start renting divers equipment and following you guys arround :)

I have seen lots of things happen in boating that are quite funny but this one still makes me laugh.

It was race day at the pond and for our club we have a boom box that we bungee to the drivers stand with the start CD in it... As it goes with old Bungee cords it broke...not all bad as the Boom Box just sat there as pretty as a picture in the rail of the drivers stand.. the railing is a the waters edge...whew.. we dodged a bullet right...WRONG... My good racing buddy BIG BRYON saw this happen and went to reach for the bungee and as he was getting up he bumped the boom box and it fell in the water..

it sunk...all the way under the water... you should have seen the look on Big bs face..i will never forget it... funniest thing i have ever seen... He grabbed it and the water ran out of it for 10 minutes at least..

To make a long story short... that POS boom box still works and goes to all the races with us.....hehehe

Grim

O yea one other thing that still makes me roll is one time at the flying field a guy went to launch is small RC plane and through the radio… he looked like a dumb Shi… standing there holding that screaming airplane and the transmitter flew through the air….

A number of years ago well in Elmira I remember pitting for a freind in

F-Hydro.

He was playing around with his brand new Futaba digital radio with multy boat programing and was as proud as could be.

Once the clock started we waited our usual one light I fired the boat up got the nod from him and launched it.

To my supprise the boat turned hard right and started going the wrong way down the front straight  .

To make matters worse a group of hydos already on the water were coming off bouy six and making time.

Well I never seen so many boats going in different directions durring a race in my life I was in tears I was laughing so hard.

After the dust settled and my freind got his boat to shut down he realized that he had changed the radio over to his twenty hydro.

To this day I still tease him about it.

Thats why I love racing I could go on for hours.

OMG!!! THAT would have been great caught on tape.....

Since I did the stupid thing of leaving radios behind lately, thought this thread needed to be revived again..

Any new / old stories to be shared with??

Mark..

Man Mark you must have dug hard to find this old thread.......LOL

Well, at least I can add to it. At our last race I have a **** multi-boat radio. So my pit man launches my boat. Every time I hit the throttle the boat slowed down, if I hit the kill position it reved up, left was right and right was left. I had to run the entire heat ass backwards because I forgot to switch from MODE #1 to MODE #3............My pit man was talking so much trash to me during that heat....

This happened last year during our major event in my district where I am the contest director and a visitor's 67 cat went hard into buoy 1 and blew off. After have retrieved his boat I figured out he had lost his entire flexshaft .

One week later making an inpection around the course with the retrieving boat to ckeck up the positions of the buoys I saw something shining near the surface of buoy 1. I couldn't believe my eyes......It was the untouched flexshaft with a polished propellor of that guy twisted to the excess of the buoy's cable....that's a lucky man!

Well, actually, I used the "search" process and used "dead boat" for the search information. Those two words still ring in my ears from the day a friend ran straight into Mary's Lil' Light'n thinking it was a duck.. D'oh....

Mark...

I got one! I forgot the stand for my tunnel so I was using a cardboard box that fit nicely in the tunnel. The box was working great but after a few runs the water from the boat made the cardboard expand. I start the boat and toss it in but it looks like the skeg caught the shalows because the prop was out of the water, nope. It was floating on its stand!

I've got one also

Travel all the way the USA, on the first day of the 2004 NAMBA Nationals, 4th place coming into the final heat (or somewhere there), start the boat, throw it in the water and almost gets to buoy 1 and stops, F@#$!

Retrieve the boat and find the glow plug was missing. I forgot to do the **** thing up.

What a start to the Nationals!
