Well If I did not have one I do now.. ;D
This last weekend and the Sardine classic I was asked by one of the racers if I would like to drive his P sport (FE) hydro in a heat. Heck yea I said. Are you kidding me I would love to.
Well if you can not trust a 5 time international champ who can you trust with your $700.00 dollar boat... Anyhow. Charley, the poor guy that trusted me with his pride and joy along with the other guys in my heat, were in for a real show from a (five time ace) right,,, wrong...
Having never driven the boat before I asked my pit dude to launch me to the left so that I could get a feel for the boat.. We did this at the 20 sec mark and away I went. The boat was pulling a tad but not to bad so (the boat was looking like 50 or so MPH) here we go 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 SMACK.. A boat right there. Was it me, was it him???? Not sure. I lifted from the power and the then (STUCK TOGETHER BOATS) came apart.. Whew.. I thought.. not so bad.. wait...where is the other boat?? Crap it is not in sight.. IT HAS.....SUNK.
Folks this is a big bad dollar brushless motor and a fast contender for the heat. Both boats could have won the heat. My head was about the size of the hemorrhoid on my A$$ and I was down for the count. The owner of the lost boat was in good sprits. (i felt like, whats he going to do crab at the CD and five time International champ).. This is the ugly part of winning a big race or two. He should have been cranked and he might have been but he was good about the whole thing.
Now for some good news. The boat was recovered. I understand that the batteries, motor and boat will all run again. The ESC on the other hand might not but I did not get the full report.
I would like to thank Charley for the chance to drive his boat. He trusted me and I feel like I let him down. Doug I hope that you will still take me up on the repaint and do any rebuild on the boat this winter after you get it through the racing season.
Both of these guys are now my friends and that the real story, and a big deal to me.
Grim the P hydro wantabe.
ROCK ON
