Joe-

It's not a "power up" thing, it's a power loss or glitch to the digital servo AFTER it has powered up & initialized. Thinking back now the guy who dialed in the heli I'm trying to sell said to wait a couple seconds after power up before making ANY trim movements so the digital servos could initialize. Digital servos can be programmed so any power loss would be like rebooting your computer..........

Don, I didn't see any delay when I cut on and off at the transmitter or the receiver. It responded just as fast or faster than the analog servo. I do recall my Hitec servo having a delay even though it was analog.

So I wonder what they are referring to when it's said the digital servo has to re-initialize. I might make a couple "tech line" calls tomorrow..........

let me know if you find anything out on that don..... that would be a problem!

Yep. What Nitrotoys means is exposed. The first couple of boats that i ever rigged up, the servos were mounted in wooden servo trays and only the battery and receiver were put in a watertight box. When i would take the cowl off my boat people would be horrified at seeing exposed servos. They were waterproof Futabas. The only reason i now put everything in a box is because that is the only way most people will buy it if you sell it. Never had the first glitch out off those servos.

YEP, OPEN Is exposed. You can mount them anywhere and just spray and oring to top and there good to go. I have a water tight box for battery and RX.

I Like the set up. But i have other boats in all in radio boxes. Theres several people that run open servos.

OK now you guys have really got me going. All this reboot stuff is making me crazy. I'm looking at buying one of these new Futabas. The new one with the changeable channels. It's digital. I'm looking at selling the old radios and stuff to use this new digital stuff. Now I'm rethinking this option. I hate the price tag of all this digital stuff too.

Hey Don, if you have "power glitches" of 1-1,5 sec throw the radio away and buy a new one and keep the servo!!!!!!!

I have used digital servos in my boats for some years (9 boats) and it`s the best!!

The 9402 futaba is not something i can recommend.

The holding power is useless so i have 2 of those that i use now for throtle and for that they are a good choice.

ALWAYS keep your batery charged before the race and you will not have problems with "low bat".......

Anders

Guys, It's not from the radio!!!!!!!!!!! What we were told is power glitches as in momentary power loss or spikes from the power source in the boat, as in between your battery pack & servo. I did just get done talking to a tech who said that it's possible that an inconsistent power signal like say from a loose connector pin or something similar causing an erratic or spiking power signal to the servo can "confuse" a digital servo & quite possibly make it "pause". He said good clean solid connections are more critical with these servos and you will not duplicate the condition by turning RX or TX on & off. He also says that mounting the digital servo on it's side with strap down type anchoring is not good either (VERY popular method in riggers) unless you pad the area between the servo & mounting surfaces to dampen vibrations. Laying them on their sides exposes alot of surface area that can absorb vibrations, something else digital servos are said to be less tolerant of. Mounting them in the "normal" upright position with the typical factory grommets and they will work fine according to the tech. So bottom line seems to be if you want to run digitals be extra aware of your connections, power source (batt. pack, switch, etc) how & what with you mount them with. Well I'll stick to my non digitals for now, had no control issues with my Futaba 9405 @ 108 mph .......... B) B) B)

Yeap i understand that Don and that`s what i mean with "throw the radio away"...

Sorry not specific...

To let a baterypack or switch cause a problem like that is not fun and it`s cheap compered with a destroyed boat......

Yuo got that right Anders! It amazes me how I still see guys spend $1,000, $1,500 or more on a boat & then run them with cheap $50 AM radios..........

I'd be hard pressed to throw any of my boats in the water unless I'm 100% sure the connections are good. For the last 3 years, I've been running my servos mounted only with 3M trim tape. They have held up well but for 1 Hitec in my 20 hydro.

My new Blackjack will have the KO Propo 2144 digital which has 13.0kg-cm of torque.

Thanks for the research and input fellas. Because I have just outlayed a lot of $ for Futaba's top line radio and digital servos. I had planned to use analogue servo's but they are definately not compatable with Futaba's new HRS receivers.

So the ones I ended up getting were S9350, a nice servo @ 139 Oz/inch, metal gears, 2xbearings, metal case (that's a first!) and heavy duty wiring.

Will still have to lay my servo's on their side, but after reading this post will err on the side of caution and support them on the grommets with no case contact to the bottom but still on their side..
