Maybe in the USA ... in Europe Dave Marles exhausts are steel ones.

(and yes .. he has alu too .. but the steel ones are commonly used)

As the (super) silenced nitro-pipes will clog during use .. you need to thoroughly clean it once in a while.

The stuff that gets that done .. will eat your aluminiumpipe in just a few hours (also handy becomming anodizing off)

The stuff used is potassium hydroxide (MSDS Number: P5887) into a high glass flower-vase , and left overnight.

Next morning put on chem-gloves , and flip it .. cleaning the other end.

In the evening ...put on chem-gloves ... and rinse in the shower (wife out of the door is needed ... ha ha )

New Hammerite BBQ-paint on it .. and you're good to go.

I was thinking about using a redline gas outboard pipe on a cmb 101

Shane............There are Plus an minus to using a steel pipe on a 101. Enjoy testing.

BUt keep the Alu pipe close by, you will be surprised at the results.

Yes I have tested it in 04/05

My experiences;

A friend and I back-to-back tested a steel pipe vs carbon pipe of exactly the same dimensions back in the 90's on a 21 engine (Audio Resonance difference between steel and carbon = huge) We tested it on the bench with a Kavan prop chart, a scale off the side of the mount for crude torque measurement and a handheld tacho for rpm - saw practically zero difference. Not an accurate "dyno" by any menas but it's what we had to play with. Next we tried it in a boat - no difference. My friend did the same test in a different boat with different engine for the same result.

The main reason is that there are lots of aluminum pipes and very few steel ones. Aluminum is much easier to spin than steel, so steel pipes are usually welded from rolled rings. That's a lot more expensive process. Steel works well for one off pipes.

tested few identical billet steel and billet aluminum pipes on .21

Wall thickness steel .025 and .015

Wall thickness aluminum .030 and .020

aluminum wins

thanks everbody for the help ,the reason for this ? is nobody makes a big aluminum outboard pipe ,but there is a big steel outboard pipe.

if you give some measurements of what you need maybe mark hopper can custom make you one just a thought

if you're talking about the gas outboard pipes... Hanson offers an aluminum sidebleed pipe setup.
