Hi Fellas,

I recently purchased the new Spektrum DSM system and installed it in a JR R1 radio for use in 3 Seaducer boats. All aerials have been installed at 8.5" in length (from the Rx case)with the maximum vertical rise possible. Range testing on land appeared OK but range in the water seems to be sadly lacking. All three boats have suffered from lack of range whilst attempting to drive a normal oval course. Maximum range required under these circumstances would be 3-400 yards. In my boats I have found the system to be unreliable beyond about 40 yards. It is inconsistent, sometimes it will work other times it won't. As the concept of this system is great and has the potential to overcome many interference problems which we presently experience, I would like to know if anybody has used this system with success and if so what did they do to obtain reliable operation.

Ok, I take it that you are talking about the Horizon Hobby Spektrum system.

We have a couple people in R/C Unlimiteds using the Horizon Hobby Spektrum system without any issues. They are using the units that "plug in" to your existing Airtronics or Futaba radios, not the fully integrated DX3 radio. Is anyone else having problems with these Spektrum systems?

Now has anyone tried the Nomadio system in a boat? If so, what results have they had? Does it have the same pitfalls that "FDJ" describes with the Horizon Hobby Spektrum system?

Check with Horizon. I heard that some of the first run of these radio systems had the issue that you describe. You're not the first one.

I haven't seen any reports on the Nomadio, they are really pushing theirs in advertising on R/C sites that sell ad space. It does have the advantage of onboard telemetry but it doesn't do you a lot of good unless your pitman can call it out to you.

The gas guys in South Florida have had major problems with the Horizon Spektrum DSM system. I have personally spoken to the folks at Horizon who are responsible for this new system and they are pretty adament that there are no range problems with this system. I have a new radio with the DSM module installed in it but am afraid to run it do to all the reported problems. Perry

We have one guy in our district that was using it and he had the same problems as described by FDJ

I seen first hand of the fail safe kicking in at about 20 yards Get ahold of Pete Collinson he had to take it back.I think second one was ok.Theres a problem with the binding to the receiver as i recall.

I have the dsm system and after i sent it in for a retune the system has worked flawlessly in my m-8 and my super exess B)

it is a system that will become better in time if you are having any problems send it back to horizon and they will fix it :D

If you go to Horizon's web site they said there was some problems with the very first ones but that it was resolved. I have the one for the R1 and 756 JR radios. If you get the wrong one for the R1 or the Pro R1 you could have a problem. I was at an IFMAR qualifier and all the racers where using this system and not one problem over the week of racing.
