Last Saturday NAMBA District 8 Director, Jim Mamaril, hooked his Shaman 40 Stock Tunnel right in front of Bill Mowatt's Shaman. As Jim's boat was rolling over, Bill's boat hit it. Jim's Shaman is probably a total. Bill's boat raced in the next heat. Jim was planning to enter his Shaman in the NAMBA Nats at Salt Lake City in a couple of weeks.

Well at least Bill has graciously volunteered to let me take his boat with me to nationals, I'll try to not let it look like mine when I get back. It's what happens in boat racing, eventually a crash like this will happen and there is no blame to be placed. As I told Bill, if i didn't want to take a chance of something happening I wouldn't have put it on the water. At least I'm smiling in the photo !!!!!!

I have been watching the class and there has been some progress in the "pipeless" 7.5cc O/B Tunnel class recently. I am currently building a new mod 7.5cc/11cc Tunnel. I have just finished building the master for this hull and now I have to build the deck and cowling for it. Then, make jigs for assembly and order larger shipping boxes. I have to order 200 boxes to get a price break and at $7.00 ea that turns into another bill plus design the new laser cut control boxes etc. BUT, I am planning to build some new Shaman tunnels again. It will probably be the end of this year because I have to get the current project out there first.

The inside pickle fork of Mitch Jr. shaman is Bondo and paint sticks from the stumble block forward, runs like a champ!

Notice that even though that Shaman got the slam of the century and the direct impact obviously did a ton of damage to the thin sections of that boat but notice that the seam did not completely fail and allow the boat to blow apart. The strength of that seam joint kept the boat from sinking and taking his engine and radio to the bottom. Things like this is what you are paying for with the higher priced boats you just don't see it until something like this happens.

Actually, what those of us who were there think what kept Jim's Shaman from sinking was that Bill's right front sponson completely pierced Jim's boat.. Hard to say if the Jim's boat would have stayed afloat without Bill's boat holding it up. Anyway, better to at least have the radio and engine.

There is enough foam in the boat to float it even if both sponson tips were broken off forward of the front rib. It would float a bit low but as long as the remaining foam was still in tact he should be fine. Now if you break off both tips plus fracture the radio box it may go down then. Sounds like y'all were having fun though.

I was wondering how many guys up your way would be interested in a new Shaman say somewhere near the end of the year? We have a few guys around here that are ready for a new hull that are running Super Sport 7.5cc Tunnel class.

Carl,
We could go ahead and add a few to the website if the interest is there.
